I just finished installing a new radiator in my 02 Liberty. Yes, at 5:27am. Can anyone tell me what the proper procedure is for refilling the coolant system?

I'm asking because I've never refilled a closed radiator, if that's what you call a radiator without a cap, and because I noticed a pipe plug marked "coolant bleed" right behind the upper radiator hose. I figure it's best to ask before I go any further.

Ah. So, the system will purge itself of air. No need to stand there above the cap waiting for the thermostat to open.

Pretty simple I've flushed mine three times now and basically yes it "burps" itself

Yup. All installed and seems to be working fine.

I did fill the radiator directly by pouring coolant into it through the upper hose. I then topped off the tank at thefirewall.

I wasn't sure how get the air out of the system on these new tangled radiators. He'll of alot easier than the old way!

I have found the easiest way to fill a 3.7/4.7 is to take that air purge plug out and insert a small funnel into the hole and fill till it is full,re-install the plug and fill the coolant bottle just slightly above the full cold line(about 1/2" high),leave the cap off, and start the engine.Then I hold the rpms at 2500rpms for 5mins(or till the t-stat opens) with the heater on low.If your getting heat out of the heater your good,just top off and put cap on and then hold rpm's at 2500rpm's till the fan turns on.Once the fan turns on your good to go as long as the temp gauge never goes past the halfway mark.

The high rpm's speed up the process and makes "burping" the system much easier also and will not in anyway hurt the engine.
