Nice. I know the new ones, the computer tells the owner when to bring the car in for service based on driving conditions.
Regardless, I use Mobil 1 every 6200 and that's about it.

I changed the oil in a '08 BMW the other week and it did not even have a dipstick to check the oil level, you had to flip through the screen in the cluster and it would tell you the oil level was good.

I'm just one of those KISS type of guys.
Even if I could afford a new BMW, I d be doing the oil changes every 6k with Mobil.
FYI the new BMW diesels are pretty sweet, despite the blue crap.

I love technology but darn that is going too far. Mobile 1 synthetic every 3k or 3 months for me.

What 12 oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals does in a GM 3.1 V6,oh and that is Castrol syntec for the last 11 oil changes. Now the guy either has to junk it or rebuild the engine(or used/remaned).

Just to add some fuel to the fire, I don't use it nor would I ever use it, but I found it rather interesting that new BMWs use Castrol. My friend's M5 with the high tech V10 has the Castrol only stamped on the oil cap. Their oil change intervals are in the 15,000 mile range too.
I would love to see a pic of one of those engines after a few years.

You mean these :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

I found the real story on this BMW. He went 60K miles between oil changes. This sludge problem has NOTHING to do with the scheduled OCIs and oil BMW recommends. Just to set the record straight.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the forum and I hope I am bringing something of interest. I'm a member of the toyota supra community and this thread was brought to my attention. I've read a lot on this forum, but have never posted.

I had a look around on BITOG, and didn't see this posted. forgive me if it has been.

Anyhow, this is NOT my car and I do not know the people involved. This thing has gone 60,000miles without any filter or oil changes. sounds like this all started with a malfunctioning vanos...and I think it's clear to see why it wasn't working!

They have removed a lot of sludge by hand, and intend to run a couple cycles of autoRX through it. I wonder if it's up to the task??

Fingers crossed oil passeges aren't plugged while cleaning..

I change the oil in all my vehicles at 1 year intervals, which isn’t saying much since I only put 7,000 miles on the KJ, 5,000 miles on the XJ, and about 15,000 miles on the Dodge Cummins. I have a 2 micron by-pass filter on my diesel, so 15,000 mile intervals is actually premature, but what the heck, once a year oil changes are cheap. I take an oil analysis every year on the truck and every other year on the Jeeps just to make sure that everything is looking good. I run Amsoil 0W20 in the KJ, Amsoil 10W30 in the XJ, and 5W30 in the Dodge Cummins. I always use Amsoil OE replacement filters which are the best you can buy. The key is to use quality oils and change them based on your driving habits. Severe driving conditions and/or modified engines require more frequent changes.
