10:10am. Air Temp: 70 degrees, humidity 35%. Had been running on the freeway at 70mph for about 10 minutes. I slow down to exit and I start to feel some sort of rough vibration, felt like chadder or a rough pavement. When I come to a full stop, I realize it's the engine (sounds like cylinders are skipping) and I have zero acceleration. I limp to a parking lot about three hundred feet away and kill the engine.

No CEL.

Let it sit for about twenty seconds, fire her up again and engine is still missing cylinders.

Open the hood, stare at the engine for a second and then pump the fuel primer. The first couple of pumps are very soft, steadily increasing in resistance until about pump #15 when it's totally stiff.

Go back in the cab, turn the key & the engine fires up like normal. :pepper:

Continue on the rest of my day, no more issues.

Soooo....I'm thinking...lift pump?

Sounds like it, but if it isn't you should do it anyway to eliminate any variables and furture problems with air.

I am thinking, when is the last time you changed the fuel filter? That pump is not supposed to be stiff at all times. A fuel filter is all it took to fix my last fueling issues.

Fuel filter: not sure if it's ever been changed. I'm the second owner and bought it at about 44K miles. Good point!

Just changing the filter is not complicated enough for this forum... please don't interrupt the serious business of critically over-thinking things...

Thank you.

Actually we might have been giving him credit for doing normal upkeep like changing filters on time. That's not "over-thinking" in my book :SOMBRERO:

Replaced the fuel filter over the weekend. Checked for water in the old one--negative.

It was a bit of a pain getting the old filter off and on with my filter wrench (not much room to maneuver). I got the feeling that the old one wasn't as tightly screwed on as it should have been. Could a leaky seal have allowed an air bubble to build up in the top of the head?

Don't know if it's my imagination, but there seems to be less white smoke on WOT now and the rig feels peppier in general.

Sounds like you fixed it, may have just been a plugged up filter? Good Job 8)

I just use one of those filter wrenches that look like a pair of channel locks, to loosen the filter, then just pull the fuel head assembly off, and disconnect the WIF wire with no under vehicle work.

I get mine from underneath. No more skinned knuckles; only fuel down the arms.
