How can you tell the difference? My first choice would be another red top that is the quality of what's still in it.

297.00 for and Odyssey good L**d and 209 for the P1 from Sears. I just dont know getting ready to add 3 sets of light and need a good battery and a smaller back up also. Any suggestions on a dual battery system and what batteries to use? Also my lights are the Warn HIDs 4-7" and 2-4" .

I got the Odyssey at cost from a wholesale auto parts store I used to work at, so I didn't pay that much...but yeah, good batteries are freakin' expensive! :furious:

The P4 is what I picked up thanks to TJKJ. She's proven to be VERY strong with me using electronics of all kinds for long periods of time.

My head said Diehard Platinum but my wallet said Duralast Gold.

Guess who won?

At any rate, I now have 800 CCAs with a good warranty and a Jeep that now starts in the cold. Pretty happy. I usually go for "the best" in my vehicles, but sometimes I just don' have the extra $$.

Y'all are spending WAY too much on batteries!

I've got a Walmart 850 CCA in it right now, bought that last winter when the factory Optima quit over the winter. My first choice would be (and will be next time) from Costco, in the largest size they have. Physical space isn't the issue, I have the battery turned sideways. IIRC, Costco's price for the 850cca / 1000ca big boy is only like $110. This comes standard with a full 36 month replacement (NOT prorated!) and they might have even upped it to 48 months.

Do I care about the possibility of needing to swap out the battery in less than 5-6 years? Not really, its only like a 10 minute job, if I drink the beer slowly. Skip the beer, I can do it in less than 5 minutes, and don't lose any settings b/c I usually change it with the engine running. Add to that, batteries in Florida / The South's heat usually don't last more than 36 months ANYWAY... And I won't need to buy a battery again for a looooooong time. Each new battery will be free from the original purchase!

I love Costco batteries Have them in all my vehicles.

And so what if it goes out in 3 years? You can buy two of these batts. for the price of one P4 or ridiculous Odyssey. A battery is one of those things that doesn't make sense to overspend on. It either starts your Jeep, or it doesn't.

Or you could always wait for the sale and buy a P4 for $129.99 with a 4 - 8 year warranty.

A Walmart battery failed on the TJ after one season and sometime later an Autozone battery failed on the Mercedes.... not sure how long it lasted but both were replaced free.

Never unhook the battery while the modern vehicle is running, even in a modern diesel. That is the sure fire way to fry the PCM.Plus a gas KJ will shut off if you disconnect the battery while it is running,I imagine the CRD will also since the voltage regulator is not in the alternator.

After adding a winch and actually use it often you will understand the need for those high priced batteries like a Odyessy, plus with a AGM battery no more science project will grow on your battery terminals like old school lead acid batteries. Also my 2 year old Odyessy still puts out over 1300cca's while only being rated at 880cca's.

I jumped on the Advanced Auto 20% off sale and replaced my original red top with a new red top, delivered to my house for $150. The original battery shows no sign of weakness, but I didn't want to run the risk of being stranded this winter with a dead 5+ year old battery.
