Good read. Being English, I'd started looking at Land Rover's products, but none of them quite "hit the mark" for my requirements. I wasn't keen on the Defender - way too expensive for what you got, and for me, the 110 was too big and the 90 too small, the Freelander didn't have a low-range option, and a couple of my friends had horrendous problems when the bought a Discovery (although other people have had no problems with Disco at all I hasten to add) and it too was a bit too big to easily park where I live. Same considerations for the Land Cruiser - the full size WAY too big and the short wheelbase model virtually unobtainable; the GWagen - excellent but way out of my budget range, unless I bought one about 20-25 years old. I then saw the Cherokee (as the Liberty is called here) - size about right, price about right, and when I took it on a test drive, I loved it. Comfortable, very manoueverable (had about the same turning circle as my little Puegeot 306) and being a diesel, the fuel economy was acceptable. I've now had it over 4 years, and will keep it until it either falls to bits, or is totalled by some twerp! We've taken it all over UK and into Europe and it has been terrific.
Anyone who doubts it's longrange credentials look here -
