Back in February of 2010, my driver side rear window regulator went (that's three out of four so far). I have the extended warranty, so I was able to get it fixed at the dealership for a 100$ deductible. I get a phone call today from Chrysler telling me that they are going to send me a check for that 100$ I paid for the window. (Not Bad!)

The rep told me that they (Chrysler) wants us (Jeep) Liberty owners to feel good about Chrysler. And in December, he told me that they are releasing more information about extending the warranty for the window regulators. He told me to keep any receipts if I incur any future charges.

So the obvious questions are: which model years will be covered, does the vehicle need to be under some kind of warranty, and can any owner be covered?

I am the second owner of a '05 KJ that was formerly a Chrysler lease... it's got 93K on the clock and no warranty. If a regulator dies, are they saying they will fix it for free? Or are there stipulations?

Doubt it will be honored for 2nd/3rd owners as most warranties do not transfer,or require a transfer fee of somekind.

I've not had any warrany issues as a 2nd/3rd owner of the last three vehicles I've owned. However, those were the factory warranties and not an extended warranty that is purchased.

I have a 5/75k aftermarket I got when I bought the jeep and the left rear has been gone for a while. I called the dealer and they said even with a warranty the cost would be near $400... Needless to say Im buying a stieger.

This has been discussed a few times, This isn't a warranty issue, it's a non-official recall (not safety related) but due to known problems with the regulators

it's a Chrysler move to maintain some customer relations without dumping a bunch of money that they don't have

basically, unless you instruct the dealer correctly, the dealer will either not know... due to .. not knowing.. or at least pretend to not know cause they're a stealership

I confirmed this myself by talking to Chrysler myself, and have advised multiple people who ALL came back from dealerships with FREE regulators paid for by CHRYSLER.

If your regulator fails or is in the process of failing, go to A dealer, notify them that your window regulator is failing or has failed, that it is a widespread problem known by Chrysler and that the DEALER needs to file a service ticket with Chrysler

Once Chrysler confirms with the dealer you can make your appointment for the service, it usually takes 1-2 business days for the Chrysler to Dealer ticket process

the parts Chrysler is willing to cover is for replacement with the normal regulator, not the unit that requires replacement of the window

this has been confirmed for all KJ year models, regardless of # of owner and regardless of any warranty

I've either gone with them, take it in myself for them while they were at work, or guided them by phone for 7 different vehicles, only one of which was the original owner and only two of which had any sort of warranty, so that added with the instructions on to do this came directly from Chrysler, then you shouldn't run into any issues for any reason

That 7/70 is a powertrain warranty,a window regulator does not fall into that warranty.

I don't know any real answers, I am just passing along the information that I received.
I have an '07 with the Extended Maximum Care warranty 7 years / 70,000 miles (which I am creeping up on). My original powertrain warranty was 3 years / 36,000 Miles.

My statements are from my personal experience, not everyone's will be the same.

These are the original warranties;
-----
http://www.chryslerfactorywarranty.net/index.htm

Discount Chrysler Warranty
3/36 - NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY
The basic warranty that covers your new vehicle for 3 years (36 months) or
36,000 miles, whichever comes first. ALL 2006 Model Year vehicles and
vehicles original warranty start date prior to November 1, 2001.

Discount Chrysler Warranty
7/70 - POWERTRAIN LIMITED WARRANTY
The extended Powertrain Limited Warranty that provides coverage on selected
powertrain (engine and transmission) components for 7 years (84 months) or
70,000 miles, which ever comes first, after the 3/36 New Vehicle Warranty has
expired. Vehicles original warranty start date from July 9, 2002 to present.
This applies to 2002 Model Year vehicles through 2005 Model Year vehicles.

Discount Chrysler Warranty
7/100 - POWERTRAIN LIMITED WARRANTY
The extended Powertrain Limited Warranty that provides coverage on selected
powertrain (engine and transmission) components for 7 years (84 months) or
100,000 miles, which ever comes first, after the 3/36 New Vehicle Warranty has
expired. Vehicles original warranty start date from November 1, 2001 to July 8, 2002.

He was already giving me the check, when he had asked if I was the original owner. I'm assuming it has to do with the fact that I had it replaced with the warranty.

If that aftermarket warranty is not through Chrysler, then you have to look at that company's policy. If it is through Chrysler, you have to see which warranty you have.

If that is the Factory warranty from when you bought the Jeep, it might not be. If it is the Extended warranty, then it will be.

When I brought it in, they knew exactly what to do.. I wanted to make sure that they were replacing the glass and using a newer regulator and he said "of course" .. I was going in ready to fight, and I didn't get to.

I had just drove mine in, and they had it finished in the same day.

Once again these are my personal experiences.. This particular dealership, I dislike very much. BUT, they do have a high volume of sales, which lead to repairs, which leads to them knowing a little bit about the common problems.

Good luck! 8)

Direct warranty replacements, either manu. or aftermarket are generally the regulator version that requires the glass replacement

Chryslers mention in my discussion with them, almost verbatim, was regardless of owner or warranty, that they would pay tickets for regulator replacement of the same type

so, all in all.. still getting the same problem, but it is free

I have had the same experience with Chrysler......they have sent the check (I do not have any extended warranty), thumbs up!

I would like to caution everyone, my local Jeep dealer in Goshen, NY insisted on charging me an $89. diagnostic fee (Stevie Wonder could have seen the problem from a mile away) and tax on the $189. for a total of $205. On the second "go around" Chrysler reimbursed me for the (I feel) fraudulent dealer charges & tax. A word to the wise, watch out for BS dealer diagnostic charges!

Chrysler told me (don't have it in writing) that they will cover all my windows as long as I own the Jeep.

Happy Holidays

I ahve decided to say screw letting the stealership have any sort of income from these crappy regulators & am replacing mine with the Stieger ones even if it does cost me.
At least I know I will not be going back to get it fixed again within a year :banghead:

Just finished replacing one in -4C weather here this morning but still feel it is worth the effort. :JEEPIN:

On second read, I guess that is not that cold. What is it, 28 degrees farenheit? I guess I would work on my jeep at that temp. I just like summer :ALONE:

Give them a call and find out for sure http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep/index.jsp?screenName=customer&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29

Advice: approach them as "of course they are covered, and ask what you have to do to get it repaired"

I always tell them what a great product Jeep is (don't know if it makes a differance but it can't hurt)
