Hello all!
This is my first post here. I am currently looking for a 2006 Liberty with the diesel engine. This vehicle is primarily for my with and road trips.
So far I understand that all diesel Liberties come with 4x4. I also have learned that 2006 was the first year for side curtain airbags. Sounds like a GDE Eco tune is a good first mod to take the EGR out of the equation.
My questions are:
1. What options are there for the 4x4? Are the all the same? 4Lo option?
2. Do all 2006 Liberties have side curtain airbags?
3. Am I totally crazy anticipating 25ish mpg with mostly 55-70mph roads? I am a fuel miser or sorts...
I know the 2005 had less in terms of traction control but thats not really important to me.
Looking for some answers and any words of wisdom. Hope to buy within the next three months....cant wait to get home from the desert!
Thanks
Thad
1) All CRDs got the NV242 transfer case (Selec-Trac) which is the best t-case ever offered in a Jeep. 4low, 4high, 4FullTime, 2High, and Neutral are the options.
2) My Jeep was built in February 2005, so it was one of the very first 2005 models.. and I have side curtain airbags in mine. So it isn't true that 2006 was the first year for this option. And, according to the window sticker, it was an expensive option so you may have trouble finding one that has it.
3) If you check fuelly.com and fueleconomy.gov you'll see that almost all CRDs on the road are averaging low-20s MPGs. 23 in the Winter and 25 in the Summer is entirely possible.
The GDE tune is an excellent investment for multiple reasons. It's not just about extra power...the benefits to your engine and driveability make it worth it.
