I'm thinking about installing a provent but notice a distinct lack of room!!! Where are the most common loctions that are used.

Installation pointers and a good source for the provent would be appreciated.

On the passenger side the vacuum thing has a unused hole. On the advice of another member I made a metal plate that is wide enough to bolt the provent mount too. Then I drilled a hole a little off center and using that hole bolted it to the extra hole in the Vacuum thing. It needs to be a little off center to fit. The hard part is going to be the piping :roll: I jb welded two 90 degeree hose barb elbows into the provent ports and put 1 self tapping sheet metal screws in each. The elbows are then pointing foward and tilted up a little. On the third try I used the smaller of the two heater hoses from my XJ (cherokee). It's not 3/4", it is 11/16" and it fits the puck on the valve cover perfectly. I was replacing them on the XJ and only napa had a listing for the smaller heater hose. You could get one from a junk yard too :BANANA: I used the preformed sections for all the piping except for one 8" stright piece of clear plastic tubing going to the fitting on the intake elbow with a section of the heater hose that makes a 90 going into it.

Coming out of the puck I used a section that makes a 90 and goes to about the center of the heater box. Then another section continues to the provent with another 90 and into the elbox. I used a short piece of 3/4" copper pipe inside of the two pieces to splice them together. Coming out of the provent It makes another turn, a little less then 90 as I remember and then is connected to the 8" piece of clear plastic splicing like the above. Then I used another curved section of the heater hose that fits on the barb on the intake manifold.

The 11/16" heater hose fits both ends perfectly and I used every inch of it :jester:

It's too tight in there to get good pictures of it going around the AC hoses it will fit :shock:

Make the metal bracket first, maybe 1/2" or 3/4" wide. Just long enough to be a good match up with the pro vent bracket. Bolt the provent with bracket to the metal peice and sit it in place and mark for the mounting hole in the vacuum thiny.

Clear plastic tubing has a few problems for this, it wants to retain the coiled shape it has from the roll it was on. When warm it softens and kinks and comes off.

Rubber heater hose works well and on my installation it fits under the engine cover and the cover did not need cut or modified.

Putting it there means it has to be removed to get the TCM out :furious:

Thanks for the detail info. I'll look into this a bit further. I assume you have the Provent 100???? How do you handle the captured oil?

Is there any limitation on where the Provent needs to be placed? For example can it be installed much lower. where there may be a tad more room? The install looks like a major PITA.

Run a piece of tubing from the outlet either down the back corner of the engine bay to just behind the right front wheel or along the right fenderwell to just behind the bumper and put in either a small valve or a small screw cap for convenient draining. If your tube is long enough, you can go a while between drains. If it's shorter, not so much.
