I'm thinking of lifting my 2002 KJ with a 2.5" Skyjacker lift. I'm fairly mechanical and could probably do it myself, but wanted to get an install estimate from a good offroad shop that would be familiar with installing a lift kit. Does anyone know of a good offroad shop near Logansport, IN?

Jeeps 'n' Heeps based out of Elgin, IL is pretty good. Plenty of experience with lifting Liberties, in fact they specialize in it. The lead mechanic has this strange obsession with Astro vans, but the shop director makes sure he stays current with the latest in Liberty upgrades. Cool thing about this shop is they encourage vehicle owners to get involved with any repairs or upgrades being made.

Jeeps 'n' Heeps recommends lifts that use OME lift springs and new shocks.

They check the Liberty forums daily and try to help anyway they can.

I corrected this post.

Ah, just some information here  From Mudds Garage :ROTFL:
Skyjacker is not a spacer lift , but a full spring kit
problem is the springs are rated at the same as stock so will sag quickly or quicker

OME are way better and last longer, better handling etc.
Price wise about the same when you fiqure in everything

Thanks for the tip.

I was thinking about the 2.5" Suspension lift from Skyjacker, not the spacer lift. However, after looking some more, now I'm thinking 2.5" Frankenlift.

I don't do any serious offroading. Just looking for some more clearance for bigger wheels/tires. I do run the beach at the Outer Banks, NC once a year for summer vacation, but nothing major.

Any thoughts on the Frankenlift?

Frankenlift is good, bolt right in, easy to install, if you can fall off a log you can install one.
Will give you more than 2.5 inches of lift
You can go OME springs and use a couple of tricks to gain the same height
read through the Lift thread it will explain things out a little more
But we can walk you through everything you need to do a proper lift that will last a long time. My first OME lift lasted me over 100,000 miles and is now on another KJ

Dang, should have searched more. The Skyjacker spacers are real popular with Googles search engine.

Now that I think of it, I recall seeing pics of a Skyjacker coil-over with a busted piston shaft and the shocks upside-down of the norm being blamed.

I think dealing with the Shop Director maybe better than the Lead Mechanic on this one :goink: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Yeah, well.

The shop director only concentrates on Liberties. The lead mechanic daydreams of modified Astros while providing the muscle, more extensive wrenching experience and a bit of amusement.

He may not remember everything about every Liberty lift kit, but he does have the biggest bumper ever seen on an Astro.

cept the skyjacker rear coils

they're longer, and heavier than OME by about 15lbs

front skyjacker coils, mudd's right, they're trash

so ome, bds front AND rear, or ome/bds front with jacker or bds rear

mix and match to suit as long as you maintain those coil rates above stock

I'm not sure why the skyjacker front coils ended up with a stock rating.. with their heavy rear springs it really doesn't make sense, they went with mushy fronts and then pretty much same rate as OME for the rear

shrug
