It's not Amazon.com that has it. It's BarMac Automotive here in Washington. I believe they are the last one to have it. I just ordered my kit for $132.00 through my shop. I will have in a week and hopefully won't have to change it so soon (three weeks) as with # 1 cylinder glow plug. It's your choice if you don't mind changing them often, go with the old but that will soon come to an end. I would get the kit while they are available.

Also 80014 that they show on Amazon don't fit our Jeep.

Update,

No instructions in the kit.

I went to the Jeep dealer after work today and spoke to the Service Manager about the need to update the ECU software when installing the new GP kit.

And here is his answer: "Jeep does not offer a GP KIT for the 2005 liberty CRD. I don't know where the part number for the kit derived from and what engine it's for.

He suspects that the kit is for the European version of a jeep diesel motor and wants to know more. He plans to find out from Jeep.

He said that if I were to bring in my CRD for glow plug service today, that he would order and install a standard ceramic glow plug. Jeep is not showing an update to the glow plugs, doesn't see it and won't install it until he is directed to do so by Jeep. So as far as the glow plug kit that arrived is concerned, He would not have it installed.

We were both looking at the kit and inspecting the New Glow plug and an older one side by side. The new plugs are definitely metal, made by Bosch and look to be the same in dimension.

Needless to say, the glow plug replacement work I had planned to do is on hold until further notice.

The tech that I originally spoke to about the kit was not around.

That is amazing. The dealer was looking at the kit and said a kit is not offered or exists. This is probably the most frustrating thing about the CRD, the difficulty with service.

I am expecting mine to be done this week, and I'll post back with specific part numbers.

Regarding the new metallic glow plugs, it is vital to change the PCM tune when the glow plugs and GCU are installed. The current Chrysler released tune will supply too much duty cycle to the new metallic plugs causing them to overheat and fail. A new PCM tune should be released by Chrysler shortly. Anyone running a GDE tune should call us before installing the new glow plugs, so we can provide an updated tune that will power the glow plugs correctly. Below are the part numbers for the glow plugs, GCU and kit:

Kit (4x GLP + 1x GCU): CY P/N 68090434AA

GLP: CY P/N 68090430AA

GCU: CY P/N 68090431AA

ECM, TCM, BCM and now PCM. Are you able to re-code to all these now?

ECM = PCM on the Liberty CRD. We also tune the TCM, but no tuning on the BCM...the BCM does not control anything that would effect performance or fuel economy.

Once again, Keith, I'm glad to have you guys around. I hope you and your company's participation with LOST has been profitable. I appreciate your willingness to share information that most of us (including the Jeep service managers too, apparently) are not privy to.

Whoa....just found that I had a couple of bad ones and I posted a topic on it before finding this. I suppose that as long as you can get the rig started bad glow plugs are not going to hurt the motor. If it takes until June to get them then so be it.

Just got a call from the dealer. My vehicle is done and the cost is $378. They managed to avoid charging me the $82 extra for parts.

The glow plug kit is still not available, but the individual parts can be obtained.

OK, I am getting the OBD code 1263. I have a code reader and I clear the CEL off and that works for a while but eventually the CEL/code comes back. Trying to figure out what to do next and how soon I have to do it.

I figure my choices are:
1) ignore it. I live in Southern California and except for the occasional visit to cold places a GP isn't required for starting. I got used to the CEL belng on for the ORM before getting the GDE tune.
2) replace the single problem plug, ( which one is that #3?, are individual ceramic plugs available?) or
3) replace all 4 GPs with the new metal ones. Then I just have the issue of getting the ECM calibrated right, have the GDE tune and it might mean some down time unless it doesn't matter if they are used a little at the old voltage. Or get the tune recalibrated first if that doesn't damage anything.

How hard are these to change? I am not much of a mechanic but I avoid the dealer when I can. I do have a local non-diesel mechanic who works on my other cars who could probably do it.

06, 84,000 miles and no other problems worth mentioning.

Look on page two and you'll find a nice tutorial by BlackLiberty about how to R&R your glow plugs.

Found the write up and it looked good. Not sure what to do next in locating a mechanic but one question that I still have is, is there any damage to running without one GP? especially in a warm climate. I just drove back 600 miles to home and no problem I am aware of. So much for the 'don't drive it' instructions although I could just be lucky. When I delete the code with the code reader I do not get a code for some time, if the engine is warm I don't get it at all so there is no signal going in those cases. Had an old (1966) MB diesel and as long as it started the GPs were not important and never gave any problems.

The only time you will get the codes for the glow plugs is when the engine is cold enough to call for the glow plugs. I get it in the morning during the first few miles of driving. Can't be sure about bad ceramic glow plugs because pieces can break off and cause damage.

Can those of you that have the new style plugs clear this up for me? I was at the dealership today and gave them the part numbers you listed above.

34aa came back as 'plug' for $166
30aa came back as the same for $101
31aa came back as a part not available for order.

Any know exactly what is what? I need to do this swap.

All you need is: Kit (4x GLP + 1x GCU): CY P/N 68090434AA

"34aa came back as 'plug' for $166" - same price I paid.

My kit is held up in Portland, OR. Parts dude told me that Chrysler sometimes do that when they update the part. Something about out with the old part, in with the new, and/or pending TSB.

Awesome... Does Jeep have the computer update out there yet or is GDE the only option just now for the metal plugs?
