Anybody ever use their CRD as a plow rig? If so what plow you using? Got any pics?

Seems like a horrible thing to do to a unibodied light vehicle like the Liberty.

The weight of the plow would likely be very hard on the front suspension, etc...

They are out there...Snowbear out of Canada is a brand that had plows sold at Home Depot and Lowe's...but as already stated the KJ is a unibody and the smashing of snow had damaged plow trucks I'd hate to think what it would do to a unibody. If thinking of droping a grand or so on a plow you might be better of droping a little more to get a truck or an old Waggy or Cherokee.

I think it has alot to do with HOW you plow as much as it is what you plow WITH. if you a little SnowSport plow on the front of a libby and think you can plow interstates at highway speeds, you're an idiot. however for clearing driveways or even a stove pipe or cul de sac at LOW speeds, taking care not to bash into things like curbs, I think you'd be fine. I do think putting a full sized plow (like the 2 pictured by twack) is probably too much for the nose to safely handle.

They make plenty of light weight plows, I thought of putting a plow on my own liberty at one time. Perfect vehicle, 4wd, diesel, short for easy manoeuvrability.

Actually you want a long wheel based vehicle,best for plowing.A 3/4 ton or bigger longbox pickup is the best,of course 4wd needed also and a SFA pickup is better then one with IFS.

Not if you are doing tight areas, or areas where the ability to turn around quickly is advantageous so you are not backing up half the time. Though that is only of interest if you are trying to make money doing it.

Look at what poeple are using that get paid for plowing,there all mostly using 3/4+ pickups,less wear and tear which ='s more money in there pockets.A regular cab long box 3/4 ton pickup is the best bang for the buck when plowing and trying to make money.

Most people use their pickup trucks to plow in the off season, or construction trucks when there is nothing else going on....

I have seen people and a group plow with the k5 blazers, and their time on the job is much less due to being able to turn around quickly and plow back and forth instead of only one direction.

You ever plowed before?

x2, shorter vehicle is the way to go, plow adds a few more feet to that already long pickup truck. If you do commercial, a pickup is good, but resi a short vehicle is better.

Yep,using a '01 F250 SD,extended cab longbox,4wd,7.3 PS(700,000+ miles on truck),with a 102" Western power "V" plow that weighs 900lbs.That power "V" plow shortens the time needed and far less backing up then a standard straight plow.

I once had the same truck except is was a 1993 F-350 with the 7.3 diesel and 8' SnoBoss straight blade. That thing was terrible for plowing my drive way, it is curvy with lots of pine trees. Took alot of manoeuvring to move that beast around. It actually ripped the one twin eye beam off of its center bolts due to the weight of the plow. So I guess that blows you whole theory that if you are 3/4 ton and up it will handle a plow with no problems? All pickup trucks and Jeeps will be stressed by a plow. My best plow trucks were older Dodges with SFA. If you wanna plow truck get a class 4 or 5 vehicle.

Thanks for the many and varied responses. I really just need something to plow my own driveway. I do alot of plowing at the golf resort where I work in NC and we use Dodge 3500's but I want to just use what I already have. It is either the CRD or my other ride, a 2002 Chevy Tracker. It has a full frame but has a weak 2.0 4cyl and is much lighter than the Libby. I have to walk in and out many times per winter. My driveway is about 300' long and is kind of tight and up hill to the house and is also north facing so it doesn't melt once the snow lays on it. I don't need a commercial plow, just wandering if the Libby will be sufficient with a small plow for personal use.

a liberty would plow like crazy. short 4wd with decent weight.. add a locker and it would push a mountain. you'd never hurt the unibody if you didnt used it like a moron. if i had a use for it and a second car to drive i would not think twice about putting a plow on my KJ. some heavy duty OME springs would be more then enough to hold it up.

After plowing snow with everything from F 250s to full size Broncos and then a Early Bronco and then seeing what all was needed every spring I would never use anything except a heavy built full size pickup, even with a small driveway.
I would never use one on a KJ /KK/TJ etc
