As you might guess from the subject, I own BFG TA K/O LT245/75/R16E tires and they're mounted on 8" rims. The problem is, the spec range of rim widths for that tire is 6.5 to 7.5", see
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/all_terrain_ta_kd.pdf. If I had known that I would have bought different tires as there are similarly sized tires from other manufacturers that are spec'ed to work with 8" rims. I originally bought those rims for 255 mm width tires.
The tires work great, and I'm not worried about running them under normal pressure (say, 35--40 psi).
But I'm afraid to air them down and maybe blow the bead.
Any thoughts on how low I can go without blowing the bead? 25 psi is surely safe. I'd like to go as low as 20 but would be afraid to go to 15.
For anyone reading quickly, the point is that the tires are designed for a narrower rim, so they need some pressure to push the bead out to 8". So it doesn't seem they can be aired down as much as a tire designed for a wider rim.
