Your gonna down grade from a Jeep :JEEPIN: to an SUV/Mall Assault Grocery Getter Vehicle/Effing Jap Cruiser/Wanna Be Hummer on a Tahoe Frame?

Good Luck :ROTFL:

I thought this wasn't going to be a catered event. So is Pasta Js now going to have a table set up for us each night?

Also agree on the battery. One other possible source of trouble could be the alternator itself... technically it was the regulator on the alternator that was the culprit. I recently had a car driving me nuts with low voltage problems that seemed all the world like it was the battery but after much diagnostic work (including swapping the batterty) I determined it was the regulator on the alternator that had failed. The way I figured it out was I noticed the battery voltage was sitting at 13v (which for this car was low... it's a true 14v car) with the key off but as soon as I'd turn the ignition on the voltage would drop to 12v, and then down to 11v after the engine was running! I disconnected the alternator and after fully charging the battery up my voltage would stay in the mid 13v range, slowly dropping since it was running on battery only. Swapped the alternator out with a spare and everything went back to normal. Granted the car is 25 years old so the alternator didn't owe me anything but it was certainly a baffling failure.

my :2cents:

I thought the one teacher here at work feeling like she needed to get rid of her 2003 KJ because the A/C and heat weren't working was silly. fixing those things was less than a few car payments but she thinks its got to go just like he does here.

I read a post in the past from another member that had the same problem, and in the end a new battery was all they needed? That is why I changed the slow cranking battery in the Sport recently, I did not want to have one of these stories of wo.

I think you're talking about me. Sounds like the same thing to me. I had it towed twice to the dealer the first week I owned it. They jumped it when I bought it at 95 miles because the battery must have been bad from the get go. They replaced the keyfob first claiming it was a bad security thing. Then the second dealer replaced the battery and all has been well for 5 years. Isn't the cold cranking amps the issue here? I don't think volts enters into it.

JL Rockies,
Sounds like you are seriously effed....I'll gladly take it off your hands for scrap value since its junk. No need to replace the battery. Please let me know where to send the check. $3 grand is what I think its worth in its current condition.

I'll do $3050. :)

12.2 volts is a dead battery. Fully charged it should be up around 13V.

JL, you are a funny man. You've been the biggest booster of CRD's I've seen on this board. Now, the battery dies and you want to get rid of it. Replace the battery with a new one, and have the charging system rung out. Then you'll most likely get your smile back. Actually, it sounds like you're just tired of it.

OTOH, if you want to sell it for salvage, I'm in the neighborhood and will pick it up. I'm near the Weber/Box Elder county line. In light traffic I could be there in an hour.

If you part it out I'll take the rear bumper!

(j/k)

Get a new battery and it will be ok again.

alright, before you lose your mind. We had this happen to the girls liberty about three weeks ago. Put in a brand new fresh battery, let the vehicle sit over night with no battery in it, put battery in and it started right up. Everything worked and no issues after wards. Also I did have to replace a few fuses that had gone bad, from the liberty sitting for almost a year ( never had it happen before), and it started. I did check every connection and ground. I double checked everything to make sure there were no frayed wires, loose grounds, loose connections anything. Since then, It has ran fine, no dieing, and even just passed emissions on its first try yesterday lol.

B - As of this AM the KJ runs again just in time for my Ft Lauderdale vacation.... gangster. Thanks for the input.

Merry Christmas.

You driving down here or flying? I'm in South Florida right now, it would be good to have another CRD on the road down here, but the roads are PACKED. If you do drive it here, I can tell you where the cheapest diesel I have found ANYWHERE in the area is. Its a HIGH volume station on Powerline Road and Wiles Road. Easily 20 cents cheaper than anywhere around, or 40 cents cheaper than one station with delusions of their own importance.
