Found this one. Discovered it was owned by a member here.... anyone know if he was the original owner? (ARBSeth)

Anyone have more detailed specs of it? I suspect it's changed some, as it appears to have less lift and smaller tires now.

Near as I can tell, he sold it sometime before May 2007 (according to info I found in a thread here)

I actually have his old Yukon axles in mine now ( from his original 8.25)
Saw it on another site just a couple of weeks ago, maybe that was you posting over there?
Has a different front diff now than the one that was originally installed with the SFA right?

I'm not sure what it has under it now, I haven't actually looked at it yet. I found it on Cragislist at a local dealer.

The idea of a KJ just popped in to my head yesterday. I've been waffling over what to get as another vehicle over the last month or so, and a KJ now seems like a decent option.

I don't really need another trail worthy rig, so this one could be overkill for my immediate needs, but it would make a neat Overland Travel rig for one person, which sort of seems like something I'd like to do. a KJ also fits the bill of having more cargo space for my needs as a DD.

I've got a pretty decently built 2004 Rubicon at the moment.

That's your opinion and its BUNK! Nearing 70,000 miles and NOTHING outside of oil changes done to mine. The mods Ive done I did for fun not because they were required. You get LOTS or torque and great fuel mileage.

There sure is lots of bunk in those CRD forums. The original poster might want to check out all the bunk, and make an informed decision before deciding to rely on a CRD for daily transportation, that is all I am saying.

Even if you get one that has few issues, can you rely on it? There is no parts availability. So are you going to pull a parts supply trailer with you everywhere you go? Otherwise, enjoy waiting 4 days for the simplest of parts, as they are never in stock. Might as well figure in your mileage pulling that parts trailer, which is bound to put a dent in the rosy fuel economy figures.

Lets see, stuff I have personally had to wait for: EGR, EGR flow control, ball joints, CAC hoses, glow plugs, torque converter, trans pump, window regulators, instrument cluster, a serpentine belt (yes, a belt, I waited 2 days in Phoenix for a lousy belt), a/c exchanger trans cooler combo, new fuel filter head (the old one leaked fuel and was a fire hazard). That is what I have waited on off the top of my head.

How many times as the CRD left me on the side of the road?

I stopped counting after ten. After recalls galore and putting lots of my own money into it, it is somewhat reliable (well, until one of the ceramic glow plugs breaks and takes the engine out). No thanks to Chrysler.

In the U.S., you had also better keep a list of dealer's that can actually work on this thing should it break down-- don't worry that list will be really short. The dealer network had the finest preparation money could buy: a three hour training video. I think it said something about the engine not having spark plugs, and that unlike a Cummin's, it does not take over 10 quarts of 15w-40 dino, only 6.4 quarts of syn (not that this has kept a dealer from putting 10 quarts of dino in it).

Really, with qualities like this, how could the average owner go wrong with this as a daily driver?

I would agree that so far my CRD is a "maintenance pig". It doesn't bother me too much because I enjoy working on it. Although some of the electrical problems could have happened on a 3.7 Liberty. Reading the CRD section is a good idea. CAC hoses, fan clutch and thermostat are some of the most recent problems that have come up in the forum.
I got the CRD because I wanted all my vehicles (VW TDI, John Deer tracker, and Kaw Mule) running on the same fuel. Trying to find a diesel 4x4 SUV in the US only leads you to the CRD. Wish there were more option but there are not unless you spend lots of cash on a diesel conversion of another vehicle. I also blend in biodiesel. Make me feel good to take some profit away from the oil companies.

Did you buy your CRD new?

Looking at your list it looks like very little of your issues was diesel related... more like Chrysler went cheap on the ancillary stuff.

How many times has it left you stranded since doing the GDE flash?

Just asking cause I just bought mine and you got me seriously worried. My other diesel powered vehicles have been very reliable, easy to fix and economical too. :CAMPING:

He bought it used after another member on this forum spent a buttload of $$$$ fixing it and why he has not had a issue yet.It's coming though,a major breakdown.

You act as though everybody has had your problems! I havent, and I know many others who have not. I have a TDI Jetta with 150,000 miles and all Ive done id the timing belt at 100,000. Take care of your vehicles and they'll usually take care of you.

Well I have a crd as a daily driver and its my only vehicle. I have had it for about a year and a half now and I haven't had any issues other than the thermostat I am dealing with now and the battery. I did add a provent and GDE tune but those items were because I wanted to and felt they would make the Engine run better and last longer. I know mine has the new fuel head and all the recalls done when the last guy had it.

Interestingly I met the first owners son he recognized the jeep since I had not changed it much and we talked about how I liked it and how his dad did an why he traded it. I was told he had few problems with it. And traded it for a diesel grand Cherokee
