Thanks, guys - and thanks geordi, for the info - can't find anything wrong with my harness, but haven't yet picked up a replacement glow plug relay, only 35bucks thru online dealers, so time will tell
Correct, all - the '86 is a Renault 2.1L 126cuin 85hp TurboDiesel, tilted ~15* to the left - has a small ~6" shock-absorber mounted between the chassis and a bracket on the lower right front of the engine (Diesel shudder, anyone?) - instrumentation is coolant temp, oil press, combo 15psi Boost\vacuum, and tachometer - Diesel Fuel Only, of course - preliminary findings indicate an AirResearch wastegated turbocharger - OHC engine is all aluminum, 2v head and block - crank-driven toothed rubber timing belt drives the camshaft and German-made Roosa Master IP (a Stanadyne Brand) - IP and injectors are mechanical - Bosch timed-glow system - Stanadyne fuel filter\manager - have not located the lift pump, tho have not been long under the vehicle - Donaldson air filter housing - diaphragm-type vacuum pump for the brake booster, cruise, and HVAC system mounted on the left side of the engine block - charge-air cooler behind the right headlite, ducted to area between lite and radiator - engine oil cooler between condenser and grille - remote oil-filter assy on the right fender well, incl bypass valving and oil press switch - engine-coolant reservoir similar in shape, size, and position to KJ unit - v-belt driven clutched fan, CW rotation - CCV draws from the aluminum valve cover thru a rectangular thermo-plastic vapor-separator box to the 'charger inlet, precip box has a bottom drain connected to the oil pan (hmmmm, where have I seen that config?) - at 90kmi, 'charger inlet is not exceeding oily, as has been seen on the KJ, tho the Cherokee has been in storage since 1993 - BW T5 5sp manual trans - Girling hydraulic clutch setup - and, of course, the coil-sprung four-trailing link track-bar located Dana straight front axle, minus the front diff - easy change-over to 4wd, by subbing-in the Dana 44 drive front axle and adding the NP xfer case, for the intrepid gear-head - as I earlier stated, application of care and thrill of discovery - more later..............
As lofty as the plans might be for the thing I'd recommend just picking up a HP D30 front end for the 4WD swap, trying to hold out for a TJ D44 is gonna cost you a lot and only going to be a minor upgrade over the D30. This is of course unless you meant to use something like a HP D44 out of a ford.
You should take some pics of it, and jump on over to Jeepin.com I would love to have another diesel owner on that forum, which is generally just a good time to hang out and BS.
Also, in case you haven't found it yet NAXJA.org is pretty much the goto resource for XJ's out there, while the 2.1 diesel knowledge is limited there there are a few members on NAXJA who also have the 2.1TD.
And when it comes down to it, ausjeepoffroad.com will have many more english speaking XJ owners who should be knowledgable about the 2.1 TD XJ.
