SWS Race cars does build a Cage for the Liberty. It seems functional and is available in a 10 or 12 Point setup. I believe the 12 point requires cutting the dash pad and the 10 does not. If you contact them through there website they will send you the technical drawings and answer any questions you might have quickly.

My $.02...

Interior roll cages do not belong in the same sentence as "keep my family safe"... I have personally responded to several life-ending head injuries from people with roll cages in their street vehicles, and these were wrecks they should have survived. Roll cages are a integral part of a larger system : 5 point harness, helmet, roll cage... having a cage without the other two is just a bad idea. What's almost worse than a poorly designed cage on the street is a well designed cage. I have also personally removed someone from a wreck who was driving a very capable caged ZJ. Modern vehicles are made to crumple in certain places in an accident and diminish forces on the occupants in an accident. A properly designed cage will often bypass these crumple zones and take much of the stress themselves. This ZJ got into a t-bone wreck at about 30mph on the passenger side. The side impact caused the harness bar behind the seats to deform forward and fractured the driver's skull when the bar pushed him (seat and all) until his head impacted the cage on the A-pillar. He probably would have had very minor injuries (if any) had he been in a stock vehicle. Something to think about.

This is interesting. So people running some stuff in Moab run their libertys without cages?

I am a teacher and would like to get a CRD to take trips out west in the summer for expo and some light wheeling. Would love to run some technical trails and always thought that roll cages were almost mandatory.

So the consensus is against roll cages or it is an it depends etc?

You have a fairly stout cage built into the roof structure of the KJ now. I'm of the opinion that it isn't necessary for anyone doing normal rock crawling and there are thousands of KJ miles on Moab trails now w/out major incident and no rolls. (though I came dang close once)
If you were wanting to go fast, pre-runner style, I'd suggest a cage...but then again, it would be the least of your worries as I doubt you'd go very fast for very long in a stock designed ifs KJ.
