I am new to this and have been lurking for a few weeks and I am getting ready to buy my L CRD and can get an 05 or 06 model. Is there any significant differences between them. I notic some of the performance box manufacturers list different stock numbers for the 05 and 06. I can get a significant price reduction on a new 05 but, if there are a lot of upgrades and recalls that I don't have to deal with on an 06 then it is an 06

Inputs are appreciated in helping me spend my money most efficiently.

TIA,

Barr

That and I think they changed the contents of the various optons packages and what is standard on each of the models.

Major difference is ESP and Electronic Traction Control. On '06 Sport model, you can now get overhead console with EVIC display, '05 could only get on Limited. Warranty - '06 went back to 3/36, '05 7/70.

Were those warranties on the CRD's?

That's the general word, on all '06 DC vehicles, including the CRD. You can check on the website or with the dealer to be sure.

CRD engine has seperate warranty (at least 05) that was 100,000 miles. I think that was in the OM, but the wife and kids are gone in the Jeep and I can't check that warranty to be sure.

The warranty on my 05 is: 3year-36,000 bumper to bumper/ 7years 70,000 powertrain/ 7 years 100,000 miles on the engine.
At least that is what the guy in the service dept. at the dealership told me.

Look in the warranty booklet that came with the truck, I think that is where I saw it. I forgot to look last night and the wife is gone now.

How about larger brakes?

The information sheet mentioned something about new for 2006 was standard ABS with larger brakes. Maybe that means vs the non ABS equiped 2005's?

The brakes feel much better in our ABS 2006 vs the old 2005 without ABS. No just in emergengy situations, just all around.

This is what my warranty manual states, except it gives specific reference to the diesel engine only for the 7 years / 100,000 mile warranty.

All I was aware of was ESP and larger brakes...

The only thing I've learned about that is it's still a myth. One guy said the '06 he test drove steered way better, not so hard to get off of dead center.

I've test driven both years (both CRD) and if felt the same to me. It would be nice to get some confirmation though.

Could have something to do with tire pressure too, our 06' CRD feels very heavy steering wise compared to the 05' V6 we used to have. But I would guess thats a weight issue. Crank up the tire pressures and it starts to feel alot better, but still the CRD has alot different feel, feels more like a truck, the V6 felt almost light and easy to drive.

Every new car has ABS, its required by law. I think you're talking about a improved ABS system in the 06, a 4 point ABS. Or you're talking about ESP, which the 05 KJ doesnt have.

Every new car has ABS? Is this a recent law? Our 2005 Liberty did not have ABS...

My 2006 liberty brochure said "Larger Brakes", I'll go back and read what it says again to make sure...

ABS was an option I believe the 05> Sport models

Correct, it was an option, but it certainly wasnt required by law...

I suggest you test drive them both, if you have a choice of years. The "myth" in 06 power steering change felt pretty real to me, my saleman, and the service manager. You must compare CRD 05 to CRD 06. The V6 models do have a lighter steering feel, and the 06 CRD is much more like that than the 05. The difference may not bother some people, but it did me.
