#3 is the nutzert you need. #5 is the bolt that you need from that picture. I think you need 2 nutzerts and 2 bolts for the tranny plate. There is a tool which is actually a large bolt with a sleeve on it that you use to install the nutzerts BEFORE you install your plate with the bolts. I didn't know this the first time so now I am having to re-do my tranny plate properly this week.

well if you have any more info on the tool and how to acquire one as well as the part numbers for the bolts that would be great. the guy at the dealer has no listing for the bolts .

Got my stuff from Jparts delivered 2 days after I ordered! Woohoo! I haven't even opened the box yet. Need to do that...maybe tonight. I'll let you know if there is a nut-rivet-zert installation bolt in there or not (probably not). If (when) not, I'll be making a trip to the parts counter. I'm sure I'll have the same conversation you've just described 0311_DoC. I'll let you know one way or the other though.

Cool, thanks Dog Party, also the parts guy said the rivets are $ 1.40 a piece and they have 19 of them in Denver somewhere. So I knew it would be an order thing. the price really isnt a big deal, I just want to mount my skid and be done with it....

I have found the nutserts are not a good way to go..after the skidplate is hit a few times the threads get damaged-too soft--and the bolts are impossible to remove if you need to take off the plate. It's better to drill thru the frame and use carriage bolts and nuts on the top. If you want to use nutserts, use can install them using a grade 8 bolt with a smooth washer greased as a bearing and nuts to tighten up the nutsert, I have done this in the past for other applications.

I know what you mean 0311_DoC. It'd be nice, after all the shopping and hunting and penny-pinching (oops, was that one out loud?...I'm a bargain shopper and proud of it!), to just have the dang things installed under the truck and doing their job banging stuff. But I'm so dang bogged down right now that I don't know if I'm going to install them, or just get someone to do it. I'd really like to do it myself though...there's no better way to learn about your vehicle than to mess with it.

I've heard others voice the same concern Neal. I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. I like the structural integrity of drilling and bolting better, without question. Just not sure I'm going to have access to the space to do it after next week. I'm selling my house next week (and the garage has to go with it). My only work space is going to be a sandy driveway for the next few months. :-(

Ok I assume these prongs go into these slots below

Image

And the rivets or nutzerts go into these holes on the cross member bar or plate or whatever its called

Image

Is that correct?

And I can use the rear bolts of the engine skid to mount the front of the tranny skid right, so that they are using the same 2 bolts ???

Yes, Yes, and Yes. Just make sure that the engine skid is on top of the front of the tranny skid, so you have a nice surface to slide over rocks with.

If you torque the nutzerts you shouldn't have a problem the the skids staying in place or with stripping. However, that is in a perfect world.

I used Grade 8 bolts for my Tranny Skid because it didn't come with nutzerts. (What a pain drilling through the cross member that was). For my Transfer Case skid I used the nutzerts. Not hard to install and solid.

Dog Party, if you need an installation tool, I have one.

Ok, so do I get grade 8 bolts at the local home depot, if I go that route? and as far as the drilling goes, I take it im going to kill some bits, and all I have is a Ryobi 18V cordless, I assume I will have to make sure all my batteries are charged
What size nuts and bolts did you use?

I had my Mopar tranny skid installed today on my '03. They did some drilling and used grade 8 bolts to make it fit.

It looks like from the picture that there is a bolt between the skid and the crossmember? I wonder why that is?
Do you have any closer pics of where it mounts to the cross member?

This pic shows the right rear bolt from the bottom of the tranny skid. Notice the bolt for the transfer case is one to the right of the pic. The crossmember was drilled for this bolt.

Image

This shows the nut you see being used as a spacer between the skid plate and crossmember. The t-case skid is on the right.

Finally, on top of the crossmember.

I wonder why they put that bolt in there as a spacer? Or is that what you wanted? and if so why?

The holes in the t-case and tranny skids didn't match up probably because of putting an '05 skid on an '03 KJ. The t-case skid didn't extend far enough forward to fill the gap where they had to drill for the tranny skid. It ain't pretty but it is solid.

Thanks for the picts priell3! Looks like you had to get a little creative to make the 05 stuff fit. But you got it down there to protect! That's what's important.

Thanks for the offer for use of the nutzert tool Ugg! I will probably take you up on that. How'd the shop do with your Daystar install? Would you still recommend them? I'm either going to have to (1) find a shop to do my installing, (2) find a shop that'll let me use their space, or (3) find a place to use as space and haul tools and parts there. It's not going to be an easy day though. I'm going to be looking at installing all my skids, front receiver, CRS rockrails, and Daystar lift...and maybe even an Aeroturbine. Jeez! That's going to be an install marathon! Maybe I'll do that in segments instead.

Got my skids in and haven't even opened the box yet. I'm pathetic. I'm about to move, so I don't want to open any boxes. I couldn't resist opening the box from Hitchfinder that came yesterday though! Woohoo! I got my receiver and it's the right one! It has the tow loops and it's a monster!

I was wondering if you ever checked your packages yet? JParts emailed me and said the tool comes with the skids. and they dont sell the install kit by itself

I have a bag of stuff that came with mine that I didn't use. I'll check to see what's in there when I get home.

I'll open it up tonight and let you know. I just got a bit of a reprieve...or was that a breakdown...from my overbooked schedule.

Anyway, I'll open it up tonight and post tomorrow.
