Get the head gasket replaced, better off having both sides replaced.Sure it's alot off $$$ but it's fixed right.

Nothing can fix a bad head gasket besides replacing the head gasket.

THANKS
i know i'd rather fix it right, but i'm out of work and moneys really tight. boy this things not like " my old cj's were" bullet proof.
i'll let you know how it works out? I HOPE THIS DON'T TURN UGLY :grim:

Well I used the Thermagasket as directed and it went 3 yrs and over 100,000 miles. never missed a beat. NO PROBLEM'S
it worked great. jeep got wrecked last month. and I was using it for long trips plus towed heavy trailers also. this stuff really worked for me. 100 % happy.

I think your about to turn a $1,300.00 repair into a real big one. When you mix engine liquids where their not supposed to be REAL bad things happen. Think hard on that one. Get another estimate from a reputable shop and have them explain everything involved.

Sorry to hear about your head gasket woes...

I agree that there is no fix other than the correct replacement of the head gasket which will likely include machining the head surface. Be diligent in checking the water pump and the entire cooling system. I would hate to see you roast your engine and blow the new head gasket too.

Best,

Hope you got a better quote than $1300 and are going to avoid using chemicals that could eventually damage other parts.

Look to what caused the problem in the first place (water pump was mentioned above) sometimes something as simple as a bad thermostat for $10 can lead to a warped head and many blown gaskets... pls especially stay away from any stop leak that goes into coolant on newer engines. (Unless you're stuck on the trail and have to crack an egg into your rad or whatever  )

With any luck the head will not have to be replaced, perhaps just decked a bit and a new gasket is not an engine-removing install or anything horrific. If you have to have it towed to a more reputable shop or another town with more garages it can be worth the savings in labour.

:2cents:

If you don’t have a job and money is tight, then I would talk to the dealership about trading it for something else that would require no cost or very little cost.
