Euro TC part number (from Trans shudder may be transfer case

I've had two TC in this piece o 2006 Liberty.. The first one is a precision TC - supposed to be heavy duty. Second was Suncoast. Both continued the shudder. Currently have the heavy duty Precision TC. Someone on this site identified the Euro part number as 68037142AA. Dealer says that part number is now replaced with RL037142AA and says it's the same part but has been updated with a number representing now a remanufactured part. Anyone heard of this and does this sound like a Euro TC? I have wasted thousands on this Liberty and I am willing to try one more TC but wanted to know if this is the correct part number. It's all the dealer has.

Service guy said that whatever tune I did (InMotion) the torque is just too much for the trans TC. Would a GDE tune be a less costly fix do you think? Will the Chrysler part be better than a Suncoast or Precision? May just have to reflash to the original since the shudder is now so bad that I can't really drive the car very much.

Sorry to hear about all the problems, but it should not be this difficult to get your rig up and running.

The new Euro TC, solved my issues. Your tune may be set too high.

Call Keith at GDE, he will give you some good advice.

Again, sorry to hear you have also suffered huge financial pain as many others here have. The "correct" MOPAR TC WILL absolutely eliminate "shudder" during part throttle acceleration in the 55-58 MPH range with ANY tune (inc the monster GDE TURBO kit) you wish to run. That said, the GDE ECO will probably eliminate the shudder IF you have not already seriously damaged your current TC.

I suggest the following: Review my dyno test results comparing IM SII and the various GDE tunes (see: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58045 and scroll down) and see if you think you can "live" with a little less torque than you have now. If yes, get the GDE ECO. There is a VERY good chance that will take care of the shudder problem w/o replacing your TC because it momentarily drops torque at the critical moment of TC lockup and then resumes full torque. If, at any later point, you want more torque, Keith will reflash your ECU at very little cost.

I don't know. The trans shop I took it to said they ordered the Suncoast after the Precision didn't make a difference. AFter the Suncoast didn't make any difference either, the trans shop said they put back in the Precision and sent the Suncoast back. They didn't tell me this until after I got the truck back anbd so I really don't know.

REgarding the Euro TC, is the part number I quoted in the first message - RL037142AA as the replacement for 68037142AA still considered the Euro TC or is Chrysler just re-manufacturing the original weak TC? Anyone have any insight?

Which Suncoast the shop got is a function of timing. If it was over 9 months ago, it probably was before they disected a "euro" TC and decided to upggrade the dampener springs they install in the units they ship out now. (I doubt you would have a problem with a Suncoast that has similar springs to the "euro" TC.)

BTW, how many R&Rs did you pay for?

I paid a lot upfront - but the trans shop did stand by their work and kept trying the different TCs on their own. Even offered to put in a new rebuilt trans they had in inventory but i said no to the idea. ANd even if they were willing to continue, I just wanted a new shop to look at it.

I don't think this shudder stuff is a normal issue that many shops deal with although maybe I'm wrong. I really wish there was a 5 or 6 speed manual solution out there. This engine with a manual would be very cool.

TC "shudder" is a rare problem in terms of vehicles in general. Most KJ CRDs have been fine with the "detuning" included in the F37 recall. I had no hint of a problem until I upgraded the power output. It is a common problem on this site because so many members increase power.

The conversion to a manual trans has been desired by many (me included), but only one has tried to do it with a US spec KJ. It is very recent and I don't believe he has completed the project, but you should be hearing updates on this site.

However, your problem is resolvable with what is now known without going to those lengths.
