Has anyone ever used an Aero Exhaust Turbine Resonated XL Muffler as advertised at Parleys Diesel. Com? I would like to know if sound is comparable to the stock setup. MPG claims are pretty high also.
Expensive, but made of stainless steel. This muffler has ceramic fiber which will probably burn out in time and get louder, something I would not like on long trips.

Several members installed these years ago. Did not change mpg significantly. Also mufflers are huge and do not fit that great under the KJ. IMHO waste of money. Sound will not change much at all with any muffler. Turbo and cat take care of most of it.

I'm not sure I agree with that completely as we have several modified, loud, annoying diesel pickups in our area. Thanks for the input on the Aero muffler as the search function did not bring much up.

It's true. ANY muffler you put on a CRD will make the Jeep sound almost identical to stock. Trust me, I've run magnaflow, thrush, etc. plus straight pipe on these.

Sorry, on this side of the Ohio River that kind of engineering is illegal.

What's the advantage of an expensive system over a $100.00 Magnaflow installation????

What about states like CA and NY that requires smog tests? Will putting a magnaflow or any other type of "flow through" muffler prevent you from passing SMOG?

In Ohio only certain counties are smog checked, mostly around Cincinnati and Cleveland and Not Franklin County in the center of the state where I live. However we do have random “sobriety check points” and some vehicles get their exhaust systems checked. On such checks the operator puts a picture of the vehicle’s exhaust system on a computer monitor and using a mirror verifies what’s on the vehicle matches what’s on the monitor. I have no first hand experience on how much varience if any is allowed. I do know if your cat is mia your car gets towed.

I would have to think that aftermarket mufflers would be acceptable anywhere as they are not part of the emmision system. However, really load ones may be subject to local noise ordinance.

It's illegal to not have a muffler or it's illegal to tamper with an emission control device? Since the sound difference is negligible and the the muffler it (typically) not considered an emissions-control component and the cat is intact and still doing...a little... then where's the illegal part?

Dan

In West Virginia, a vehicle with a missing muffler would never pass the annual safety inspection.

Different states have different regulations regarding whether or not you have to have a muffler. I replaced the old exhaust brake muffler with a Magnaflow, largely because I will be moving a lot in the next few years and cannot know whether or not the state I may live in next will require a visible muffler.

That being said, the sound with or without a muffler is qualitatively the same and lack of a muffler has no significant impact on emissions.

The Aero 2525 will not noticeably increase MPG but will allow better coasting.
