Can MrMopar64 weigh in on this?? Can GDE build a flash just for the new GP voltage levels? Seems like we have a national null set here.....Thanks DC !!!

Contacted Keith today via E-mail and he said he doen not have a tune for the GP only and if he was to create one it would be the same price as a eco-tune which will have the GP fix already in the programming.

I agree with the comment that I dont feel good about leaving my rig with a dealer that has never heard of the metal glow plugs let alone the tune needed to fix the voltage problem.

This thing is about to get traded for another TDI!! DC, never again. :x

I was sure hoping for a better response from some of the people that have bought the kit so far. Guess few have installed them yet.

Keith, by any chance have you received any post install feedback from any of your customers on this issue?

Not yet, very few have updated the glow plugs so far. Just guessing, but the lack of clear directions form Chrysler might be the issue for everyone's hesitency.

Bingo! My dealer is clueless. Ordered the GPs and they are not in 4 weeks later, never heard of a necessary flash. Not sure I trust them to install the GPs anyway. They never worked on a KJ CRD but do pick up diesel work. I'll just keep waiting for the issue to resolve or when I need my 100K service (86K now) No problem starting as I am in a warm area.

Looks like I'm in exactly the same boat.
I'm not gonna sweat it as this latest cold snap here is probably as cold as it will get here, and I started ok.

I'm gonna get a tune from Keith here pretty quick, a new set of tires and ride awhile (I hope).

I am thinking the same thing but I am telling my self to keep it, but I don't know how much more I can take! I am about to meet up with Keith tomorrow and get the eco tune with the GP update and throw the new plugs in this weekend! and if I do that I'm not selling the thing, I'll never get my money out of it!
It really is hard to believe that Chrysler is doing this, I will have a hard time buying another one! I do want a GC CRD ha.

I hope I don't have to get new GP soon. I have the Eco tune so I would just get Kieth to send me the tool again with a new flash. Mine has been starting good even in single digit temps with out the block heater.

I am hoping for a mild Feb..... Hopefully the new red top will help by spinning over faster. The wife can plug in here at home but not at work. Crossing my fingers.

After tigfila blew his engine due to a most likely glow plug failure, I really want to get the ceramics out. If they were easy to get to, I would just remove them and plug the holes until DC figured this all out. That is if I can get through Feb in OHIO :banghead:

The dealer that is installing my new engine whenever it finally shows up has the new kit in stock and waiting. Along with the new turbo.

Checked the TSB that has been thrown around here lately for this at my dealer.
Seems to work in Canada:
TSB 08-005-11
$495 labor
$285 kit
$780 total + tax

I know things can be more expensive in Canada, but holy mounties man, thats just too high. And what is GST these days? Can you get the GPs online and have a local mechanic install them and get the ECU reflashed separately? Too bad you really need GPs up there.

Is there any way you can get a copy of the TSB from your dealer. I'm sure many here would like a copy to show their dealer if they can't find it.

Mine is in the shop now having the TSB done...total cost less tax $615...and that was with a little haggling. It was too darn much money, however the tech is apparently earning it, as he worked on it most all day today and still isn't done!! The service writer told me this pm "this turned out to be a pretty big job".

Why do I have the sinking feeling that some threads came out with a plug?? Sure hope not.

Guess I'll know more tomorrow. :( :(

Price you pay for living here. Another sunny day with 6°C (43°F) weather.

Good news - GST is dead! Bad news - a worse HST tax has replaced it

The TSB allowed for 2.5 hours labor, which the service writer said was the warranty rate, which is usually half the actual rate.
My quote was 4 hrs labor...which was before he looked up the TSB. It also allows for a flash.
The Kit price was $187 if I remember right.

I'll try to get a copy of the TSB from him tomorrow morning.

Hopefully mine will be ready tomorrow.

It was my understanding that the new glow plug controller outputs the correct voltage for the new glow plugs, but I am not 100% sure of that.

I believe MrMopar or GDE I don't remember which said ECM pulsed the GPC to obtain an average 5 , or 7, volts and there was a long discussion about how to correctly read that voltage and what kind of meter was needed and that's why a ECM flash was needed. Nobody seems to know for sure what is different on the new GPC. But it may have to do with sensing the current draw of each GP that is a direct result of the GP's resistance value to report a bad one to the ECM that lights a CEL..

Just a guess
