i have an 06 25th KJ with just over 52k on the odo and the a/c died. me and some buddies are going to check it out before the superbowl and i need some opinions. i think it is just a fuse, buddy #1 thinks it is the compressor, and buddy number 2 thinks it is the a/c as a whole--(he is dumb) any opinions----i have not checked the fuses due to the fact that it was 9 at night when i got it home. tomorrow will be the first time i look at it. when i hit the a/c button nothing happens, which makes me think it is the fuse cause within an hour this happened. not over time but like automatically... any way any help would be great regarding my year and miles. thanks in advance
roy

You should hear the AC clutch "click" when you turn on the AC.
Could be a bad fuse...there is also a relay in the fuse box in the engine bay but it could be that the refrigerant is low...there are sensors that sense the low gas level and stop the clutch engaging thereby saving the AC compressor from damage.
If you do not find a bad fuse or relay, take it to an auto aircon shop to test for leaks etc.

so i checked the fuses and the relay, all good, double checked the coolant level and tried to add some so the clutch would engage and nothing. there are definitly no leaks. any other options cause i really dont want to spend $1000 to fix this. if it were mine i would just roll the windows down but it is my wifes daily driver with my two kids in the back and it gets hot in souther california. even during the winter---it was 78 today so getting this fixed sooner would be better. thanks again for the help and options.

Hi dear,
If fuses are good and there is no leakage also then you should check the wiring also. There could be a damaged wire or bad socket...........

How did you 'try to add coolant?' You need a set of gauges so you can see the high and low pressure. Also, there is a way to use a jumper to make the compressor kick on but I do not know what you jumper on a KJ.

Not to mention that if it is a faulty switch and not a leak you could end up overcharging your system...which is not good for it either.

Since by what you (and some others posting)have said you have zero clue about a automotive AC system you better leave it to a professional to daignose and fix.It requires some specialized tools to diagnose and repair a AC system which will far out-weigh what it would cost for someone with the tools already to fix.If you overcharge the system it can blow up,and I have seen some blow and it's not pretty and generally anyone with there head under the hood is dead also. Not to mention in most states it is illegal to work on your AC system without being certified, and yes I know anyone can buy R134A but it is still a federal crime to use it without the certification.
