Apologies is this has been beaten to death, but here goes:

I know many of you are running a Frankenlift.
My question is which front spring are you running and why?

I'll be doing a Frankenlift later this spring, and will eventually be adding an ARB
or similar bumper, so I'm wondering if I should "upgrade" to the OME790 springs to
handle the extra weight.

I don't mind a little stiffer ride, which I know I'll get with the 790's,
I'm just wondering if they'll be necessary.
Besides, it looks like the 790's are only $5 more than a pair of 927H/D's.

BTW, I've got an '04 with the 3.7 gas engine.

Comments???

My first lift was OME 927 springs on a 04 3.7 gasser,
installed the ARB within a week of the lift, ran that lift for a little over 100,000 miles.
Now have a muddified lift with 790s.
Personally I think running 790s without an ARB or any heavier aftermarket bumper would be too rough to be comfortable, and I like a good firm ride. You really need that extra weight up there to use them

x2 I 2000mi ago frankenlifted with 927's. Bumper is on back order for a while but the suspension is maxed out with little to no pre-load. I cut out 4four 33"x3"x1" steel plates today to weld together and mount under the factory bumper where the tow eyes mount. Should weigh about 110lbs. I hope it lowers the front about a half inch to 1 inch to prevent the suspension constantly banging as it tops out and help out the CV's some. I wouldn't change the lift I just wish I had the bumper already. 23 1/2 inches center to flare front. The other thing I didn't think about was after lifting that far your track width shortens. In the front the tires are far inside of the flares but the back they look right to me. I did expect to loose articulation in the front and the 790's would worsen that effect just because you don't have enough weight to compress them.

So the overall opinion seems to be stick with the 927H/D springs up front.
I'm looking at late April / early May for the lift, with a 6 to 12 month wait for the bumper.

I doubt that I'll be doing a winch up front, but I will be adding additional lighting up front,
as well as up top when the "Boiler" roof rack gets installed sometime in April.

Thanks for the input.

Hind sight being 20/20, I should have ordered the 790 OME Coil springs
with our Frankenlift.

if your just doing an ARB stick with the 927's ... if your going to do an ARB and winch (especially with steel cable) then do 790's.

My jeep rode and handled perfectly with the frankenlift and 927's with the stock bumper

Added ARB and winch with steel cable and the jeep sagged in the front about 1/2 an inch and felt sloppy.. and body roll was increased a lot

switched my 927's with 790's and kept all the parts of my frankenlift.. and the jeep handles just like it did without the arb and winch.

my KJ is 3.7 V6.

Intresting topic

I was and still am planning the lift just waiting to get the funds toghter. I called ARB because the dealer I was talking with was not sure about the 790's with out an ARB bumper though I may get one just not with the lift for sure. They had me call ARB and ask which spring for a CRD with out the off road bumper. ARB says to use 927's which goes against everything everyone here does with the CRD. so should I get the 927 or 790 when I order mine? ARB was saying the 790 with out the bumper even on a CRD will make it ride too firm & rough.

Firm and well controled is good as long as it dont rattle my teeth.

Lets look at spring rates....................one more time
OME 927s are rated at 400 lb
OEM CRD are rated at 410 lbs
OME CRD are rated at 500 lb

so if you have a CRD why would you want to install springs that are rated less than stock? Yes it would appear to be more or less a stock type replacement for the OEM originals. But most everyone wants to upgrade, not stay the same as what they now have.
To me it makes no sense even if ARB says to do it.
Of course the OME 790s will give you a more firmer ride, ( but much better overall ride and control) much like gassers going from the stock OEM springs rated at 310 lb to the OME 927s at 400.
ARB tests their springs and do a great job, no one would argue that point.
But out here we do real world testing .............everyday
They should be paying us, but you can't even get a decal from them! :banghead: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

If I could do it over again, I'd have gotten 927s for my CRD. The 790s are stiff as he** and cause my suspension to top out and/or bang on the A-arms going over speed bumps, etc. The 927s are definitely the way to go unless you've got a CRD AND ARB bumper combined. Just my honest :2cents:

any lifted liberty will hit the A-arms over speed bumps for a quick drop. with the 927's your CRD would jeep like a slosh bucket.

The way you explain it it seems very clear and logical that I would want the 790 springs. I have no clue why I was told to order 927 id that is less than the stock makes no sence when you look at the spring rates all to me now.

Thanks for explaining that Tom.

Given the choice between a slosh bucket and a tobacco wagon, I'll take the slosh bucket.

I've rode in all types of farm wagons ( growing up on a farm ) and mine rides WAY better than any of them. Of course it maybe a Kentucky thing, wagons maybe built to ride really really rough down there :ROTFL:
