So I cleaned the engine the other day and as soon as I started it the Malfunction Indicator Light came on and has been on ever since. Went by AutoZone today and here are the codes it pulled.

P0403-Exhaust gas recirculation (ERG) system – circuit malfunction Wiring, EGR solenoid, ECM
P1140-Vacuum reservoir solenoid curcuit condition-detected a voltage concern on the vacuum reservoir solenoid circuit
P0299-Turbo/super charger – low boost Mechanical fault
P1252-Vacuum reservoir Solenoid short circuit-detected short to voltage on vacuum reservoir solenoid control unit

I have no idea where to begin.
I have the SEGR but I put the bypass/loop plug in before we ran the codes. Was this the correct thing to do?
If I end up taking it to the shop, am I correct in thinking I should leave the SEGR bypass plug in so they won't get a false reading?
I have had the SEGR for a few years now and the EGR was fine when I installed. Why would I be getting a EGR system error?

Thanks for any help, guys!

Hey Shags,is it running fine?
If so,I would try and let AutoZone clear the codes and see if they come back.
The bypass plug doesn't need to be put in if you are just checking codes(more to not let dealer see it if under warranty).
Don't forget that you have a bunch of skinned wires by your firewall and water across them may have shorted them out and caused the codes.

First things first-How's the bus running?

It seems to be running ok. Might not be as peppy by a small fraction but then again it could be my imagination. Anyway, it drives around fine best I can tell.

Good point on shorting them out. I hope we got those wires covered but likely that we didn't get all of them covered. I'll see about Autozone clearing the codes. Going by to get some gear oil for the rearend anyway.
Thanks for the info, Bub!

Just got back from AutoZone and they won't clear the codes. They said they are only allowed to check them. :banghead:

I have a call into a mechanic friend, hoping he has a code scanner.........

Scott,

Now there's your problem right there, you and Bub have got to stop washing your engine in the murky bayou.

If you have an advance auto, just ask to use it yourself. the auto zone here started doing the same thing, not clearing codes. Now I go to advance. Worst case, you could "rent" one for free with your credit card like the other loaner tools.

Good info to know. I thought about it later and wondered if I could 'rent' the code reader. I have rented other tools from AZ before.

I finally got in touch with my mechanic buddy and he has a code reader but we can't get together until this weekend. When I started the KJ this morning, the dash light was out!! Yay! I think Bub was probably right on the water shorting something. I'll see what it does over the near future.

Now I can get back to the Love portion of this love/hate relationship.
No more engine washing for me!

Thanks for everyone's help.

So your codes spontaneously went away?

I cleaned my engine bay yesterday and threw three of the same codes--p1252, p0403, and p1140--as read at Auto Zone. I too run an SEGR. The rig was a little anemic. Let's see if they're clear this morning. I'll post back.

where and how is yor segr mounted? a couple of those codes could have been from getting water in the segr...

regardless, check anything with a wire near the little vacuum stack. a paper towel might solve the condition that threw the codes.

Thanks Dan.

My SEGR is in the provided box under the dash on the hump beneath the cigarette lighter. I tried plugging in the bypass plug to no avail. The CEL is still on this morning. I don't have an OBD-II scanner. I think I'll go over to AutoZone, borrow a scanner, clear the codes, and see if they return.

I unplugged the two wiring plugs in each of the vacuum module looking things near the power steering reservoir. They both seemed dry. Plugged them back in. CEL still illuminated.

I'll post back if the CEL returns after clearing.

Cleared the codes and p1252 keeps coming back. I guess I need to buy a new solenoid?

Yes, AZ, my code and MIL light spontaneously went out and (knock on wood) have not been back. Sorry I can't offer any more help.
As Bub had mentioned, we had found so bare wires near the fire wall that I had done my best to to coat with liquid Insulator. I'm sure I probably missed some as it was very hard to get to so I feel that is where my problem came from....

So p1252 finally cleared itself AFTER I ordered a new vacuum solenoid. :banghead:

I should have stuck to my procrastination philosophy and ignored it until it went away.
