Hello,

i know it has nothing to do with crd, but my jeep lug nuts are beginning to «malfunction», i.e. it is now difficult to take them off or put them back on.

So i want to know what do you guys think of these as a replacement

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-Chrom ... ccessories

Thanks!

General KJ questions are best posted in the general KJ section. The search feature will yield quick results as well.

I am curious. How exactly would the search feature be helpful? He is asking about a specific ebay lug nut using a link. He was asking for opinions. Unless the LOST servers are some kind of AI supercomputer, I don't think he will get an opinion on a link to a specific lugnut using the search feature.

Seems like a great price for 20 one piece lug nuts. Buyer reviews were also positive. I will save that seller for future reference. Please let us know how they work out if you get them.

The factory nuts suck because the outer layer comes loose then the nut beneath looks like crap. Not to mention they can round off making it impossible to get the nut and wheel off. I will definitely be upgrading mine as time/money allows.

I bought three sets from them :SOMBRERO:
My jeep, CRD
Wife's jeep, XJ
and Son's jeep, XJ

Much nicer then the factory ones with the cheap tin cover that rusts and comes off.

I've got 10 of them on the front right now.
They are junk and will start to rust in no time at all.

Get the Gorilla SS Lifetime lug nuts and be done with it.
Got 20 Gorillas just waiting to go on.
If I would have known about the Gorillas before, I would have done them the first time.

As stated above, the OEM covers come/break off.
Then you're stuck on the side of the road with a lug wrench that doesn't fit.

Now you know.

Just my opinion, of course.

BTW-the dealership will replace them if the covers break off, but only up to 3/36000. And that aint any of us, anymore.

Doc

Before you put those gorillas on you might look at the reviews on amazon. Apparently the stainless steel are capped and can break loose and spin, one guy had to cut one off with a chisel. Sounded like he hadn't heard back from Gorilla yet. Several other posts about caps coming off the lug nut. I was excited when I read your post, then not so much when I read the reviews. Not trying to pee in your cheerios, just a warning before you put them on.

Jeez, why is it so hard to get a decent lug nut...

For whatever it's worth most, but not all crowned lug nuts are 2 piece with a cap over the "real" lug nut and it's not at all uncommon for the cap to be stainless and the real lug nut to not be stainless. Uncrowned lug nuts (old fashioned ones where the lug is visible with the nut screwed down) are always 1 piece. Hence it's relatively easy to find 1 piece solid stainless lug nuts on trailer web sites, I have then on my trailer, and there are some crowned lug nuts one those sites that appear to be 1-piece although I have not checked. The KJ lug nuts appear to be 1/2" x 20 pitch BUT and it's a very important but I don't know the pitch of the beveled side (side toward the wheel) although I do know there are narrow and wide crown pitches. Happly hunting.

jdorris,

Thanks for the warning and stating it in a refined, gentile manner. And sorry to all for getting a little heavy-handed on the keyboard.

It's just that I am getting a little pissed off these days not being able to find the simplest of things. And I have searched.

I can not find a solid SS lug nut and have been told this is due to material properties.

As for lug nuts, Gorilla is as close to a SS nut that I can find. The center is plated cold forged vanadium steel and the cap is 304 SS.
They have a lifetime guarantee. I talked to the folks at Gorilla and was assured they would be replaced if they failed.

I closely examined the cap crimping when I received them. Although they are a two piece, the crimping does look pretty darn good.
At least the seem better that the OEM which only have a small spot weld to hold the cap on, which many of mine are not doing. And the dealer won't replace them.

I'm going to put them on here shortly and will report back. Any problems and back they go.

I have vowed that I am not going to be taken any more. I am putting the Vaseline tube away.

Well, hopefully it was just a few who had trouble. Since you have already been in communication with gorilla, I'd say they sound like they will back the product. I look forward to your findings.
