as expensive as this ute is, i wont part with it until it dies. If anything ill put street tires on it and keep it for DD and then get a trail rig/ a fun car. But right now its set up so its really comfortable onroad and surprisingly well on the road. 150k, one egr replaced, thermostat and turbo hoses replaced and one tranny flush and the timing belt done. lifted with 31's and its running as perfect and strong as ever.

Hey Guys,
Sorry to hear of any misfortune you may experience with your CRDs. :banghead:

I'm new to the the VM experience as of November, and my first Jeep before that, an '02 Liberty- earlier last year.
Both had blown engines. Although the '02 has the 3.7, (a "folley" all its own), both it and the CRD are the absolutely the easiest, straight-forward vehicles I have ever worked on. And, I had absolutely no trouble finding parts for the VM, all the way down to head gasket, rocker-arm/lifter assemblies, water-pump, etc... and not all that pricey, really, in comparison to whatever else you're driving these days of similar age.
Other vehicles I have owned:
2008 F350 Longbed Crewcab, V-10 gasser with 4:30 gears and 8 mpg no load- whew! Remember ga$ price$ in '08???

1985 MB 300SD, (5cyl Turbo auto) 4-door, boat-like ride, 26.5 mpg always, good luck searching for some of those parts!
1975 MB 300D, (5cyl, Non-turbo automatic), not so exciting, and all it was good for was parts! :dead:

1979 GMC 1500, 5.7L Clunker-Diesel. Nice riding truck, got about 22 mpg, tons of problems and sold it. :dizzy:

1968 Mercedes 220D, 4-cyl, no turbo, 4spd manual. 32 mpg. Best overall production vehicle ever to roam the planet.

I have found you will never find an easier vehicle to obain resourses and advice on than a Jeep either. :google:

I have a friend that is looking for a CRD all over the country. He is willing to fly and drive for the right deal. I know that he is looking for low miles and like most people seems a little freaked out over a car with more than 150K miles being over $12K. The same feelings that you guys are posting about is what is driving the resale of these down.

Personally I would love to pick up a wrecked CRD and transplant the motor into an old CJ we have kicking around. This motor makes so much torque and is such a pleasure to drive it makes the vortec 4.3L in the CJ feel anemic.

I did the "country wide" search and flew out to inspect, make a deal, then drive it 1400 miles back home. That was back in Oct, and so far I'm loving the experience. Just did my first winter in deep snow with the CRD and it was a blast!!

TOO bad. I understand the frustration. I put off the timing belt but still got her done. Since the GDE tune, I get the mileage and throttle response I expected when I bought the Jeep. She'll get knew rubber this summer/fall.

I agree about the love-hate relationship. But I enjoy driving her more every day...especially when fuel prices keep going up and I remember the mileage my new (then '05) F-150 got. Oh, one more thing, its paid for :mrgreen:

I've owned diesel cars, Volvo, many VW's and a Datsun, since 1978 and it's always the same. When your buying "they're hard to find and sell as fast as we get them in". When your trading it's "there's no demand for them". :BANANA:

Yeah the average joe off the street is not likely to buy a jeep CRD or any other diesel and the dealer may have to work and find a diesel buyer

Since the economy crashed there has been parts problems with all 3 of the once famed "big three".

Jeeps are definetly different then the average sedan no doubt about it :JEEPIN:

My first 4x4 was a 1966 Land Rover "88" and all parts had to be ordered :dead:

Anyone who has driven a vehicle 100k miles needs to think about repairiong or replacing it for all the reasons that have been listed. What is better, a $1000 timing belt or two two $500 monthly car payments :?:
