i have a 06 crd that has right at 99000 miles. about 50 miles ago the perform service started dinging. can anyone tell me what service this is and how to reset it

Probably telling you to get your timing belt done. I would recommend doing that and not resetting it until after its done

Doesn't the EVIC show the "Perform Service" message each time an oil change is due? Mine does. I have it set to 6,250 mile intervals (don't have a clue why the intervals don't go in 5,000s to make it simple).

Make plans to do the timing belt.
I have fixed some VW Diesel Engines that had timing belts break, take my word, it is a big mess and most would replace the head. On the VWs, I would replace the valves, guides, lifters, and resleeve the lifter bores as needed. Since the CRD has rockers, 16 valves instead of 8, dual over head cams, a CRD would be a bigger mess and I don't want to have any first hand experience.
