Injector replacement

I have 2 bad injectors and did not realize that they are such expensive parts, 6-700 each new or more. Any suggestions if it's possible to get some at a reasonable price? Could I take them somewhere to have them repaired instead and who would do that kind of work?

Try this place for rebuilt or new. Save more if you get all four.

Be aware there's a 6 position alpha/numeric value of each resister that needs to be programmed into your ECM (Engine Computer Module) :dizzy:

is this serious? this is something id need a dealer to hookup to? bah as if it wasnt hard enough to replace these

GDE can put in your VIN, injector codes and the tune of your choice and send you a ECM exchange. Besides the cost of the tune there's a deposit on the ECM that's refunded on the retrun of yours :SOMBRERO:

Or the dealer can do it for you :ALONE:

There's been discussions on how important this is and correcting it on one fellow's CRD it solved some kind of problem :BANANA:

This is the route I took.

equipt31 – Also remember that you will need to replace the copper crush washer and rubber o-ring when swapping injector. A new injector from Bosch will come with the washer, but not the o-ring. You can order that from your dealer for just a couple of bucks. (I can post the part numbers if it’s helpful.) Other than getting the injectors reassigned in the ECM, it’s a pretty easy and straight forward job. I highly recommend reading the procedure in the FSM.

You don't have to have the trim codes uploaded but it is recommended for max performance and efficiency.

Un real! One injector is over $600! I cannot believe the cost or maintaining these thing. What is the average life expectancy of our injectors?

The injectors are designed to last the life of the vehicle. This is highly contingent on fuel filtration and no air ingestion in the fuel suppy line...

How were you able to determine both injectors are bad? Very rare to have two fail at the same time unless fuel contamination played a part.

A good cleaning from a local fuel injector repair facility may get it going again, maybe worth a try.

I tried this on my crd buy a can of seafoam disconnect the water separator connector unscrew fuel filter pour fuel from filter back into tank now check the color of the filter element mine was black and it took me by surprise I had 16k on the filter the reccommended is 20k this I think is a big screwup on Chrysler's part now its once a year for me or about 12k filters cost 20-30$ the fuel injector pump is 850$ plus labor or your labor. Now refill filter with seafoam put filter back on filter housing reprime the fuel system. If theres extra seafoam pour it in the tank also check your fuel line clamps make sure they are tight and other line fittings the dealer hires anybody that can talk a good job I think my dog should apply! Its about 9 dollars and if it doesn't work you're out nine dollars but the seafoam cleaned mine and added some sensitivity to the pedal this precedure is on the can of seafoam. crdjoe love the torque!

heres how to change the injectors right:

Hook up the fuel injector tester to the Schrader valve on the fuel line.

Turn the key to the ON position and allow the fuel pump to build pressure in the system. Do NOT start the vehicle.

Press the test button on the fuel injector tester and allow it to pulsate the fuel injector for the needed amount of time.

Repeat this for each fuel injector and write down the pressure indicated on the tester for each fuel injector.

After all the fuel injectors have been tested and you have the pressure readings, find the average reading for all the fuel injectors. Add all the readings together, then divide by the number of fuel injectors in the engine.

Compare each original fuel injector PSI reading to the average PSI reading. If you have fuel injectors that are above OR below 1.5 PSI of the average, they are faulty and will need replacement.
8
After you have determined which fuel injectors need to be replaced, follow instructions on removal and replacement.

Locate and disconnect the fuel pump relay. Start the vehicle to discharge any fuel already in the lines. This will release the pressure in the lines and allow you to remove the fuel injectors safely.

I upgraded my filter to a 2 micron from stock after I read all the problems with injectors on other Common Rail Diesel Engines.
I am of the opinion that Bean Counter Engineers cut corners to please the bosses that have HR keep their paychecks coming.
When under the stress of loosing your job, the Engineers will produce cost reductions by either new innovations or by cheating. Our CRDs have shown evidence of both innovative and Bean Counter Engineering for reducing costs.
The stock filter that is between ~3 to 10 microns depending upon who's info you read, does not offer the same protection. Sure 3 Microns is close to 2 microns, but 10 microns is not.
In my opinion and the opinion of many but not all truckers and fleet managers, a 2 micron filter is cheap insurance and their decision is based upon how long they want to run their trucks before they trade them off.

Those instructions are for a gas engine and won't work on our system. Diesel fuel injection is much different from gas engines.
