Have had my 2011 liberty for a few weeks now and since day one have had a funny vibration at 50 mph when it goes into 4th(OD) gear around 1500 RPMs and is more pronounced when drivng up a slight incline. the vibration goes away when i let off the gas or accelarate. it almost feels like im driving over rumble strips on the highway. There is also a vibration at speeds above 70 but this feels a bit differant, not sure if the two are related or not. Has anyone experianced this or have any idea what it could be? Any help would be appreciated, love everything else about the jeep! just want this vibration to go away. Thanks!

Sounds like a TSB that was for 08 KKs that everyone here had done but i would assume Chrysler would apply this to their future builds lol

The tech at the local dealership said he couldnt feel anything maybe because of how loud the rain was!? Lol! Said bring it back when it's not raining. Will be taking it to a different dealer when I get a chance. Anyone with newer than 08s have experience with this?

You need a PCM flash. This was a common thing on the 08 and some 09 models. I had the same thing when my 09 was new. The dealer did theis as part of a regular service, seemed to cure it. They should know what this is. If they don't, inform them...

I purchased a 2011 Liberty last month and have put 1000 miles on it.

I have the same issue. Under power there is a growl and vibration. You can feel it in the floor and even through the gas pedal.

If I coast about 80% of the growl noise goes away and much of the vibration stays. The vibration does not shake you, but it is a nuisance to say the least. Makes the purchase very disappointing.

I took it to the dealer service manager who drove it and he said it was normal and called it "torque converter lockup".

I am bringing it back to the dealer to get a better resolution.

Any ideas would be apprecitated.

That aint normal. Dont let them make up bs so they can run you away. Wouldnt be surprised if they said something like "piston return spring getting broken in, its normal" :ROTFL:

well..... i have 6500 miles on my liberty now. the rumbling droning feel and noise around 50 mph is still there but not
as bad as it used to be, it has seemed to get better over time, but its still there. the shaking\shudder\vibration at highway
speeds is still there. unfortunatly dont have much time lately to take it to dealer so have just been living with it. it seems ok some days and worse on other days, but its always there. hope to figure this out eventually cause everything else i like about the kk.

I had the same issue with my 2011 liberty sport. Took it back to the dealer and they said it was an issue that happened when the torque converter locked up at low rpm. Flashed the PCM which "fixed" it... and I say "fixed" because all the PCM flash did is raise the point the converter locked up from 45-->50mph but if you go 50 and slow down to 45 it stays locked and still vibrates. Plus as an added bonus, because I spend most of my daily commute going 45-50 mph it constantly locks and unlocks now and I have had a 1.5mpg reduction in gas mileage! So I need to figure out if the vibration is going to hurt anything because I want my 1.5mpg back if they can flash back to the old PCM software.

I have 2500 miles on mine now and it's as bad as it ever was. I brought this up to a friend that has a 2011 with 8000 miles and he said he had not noticed this issue UNTIL I asked him if his made the same noises.

I had the Service Manager at the Jeep dealership ride with me a few days ago and he agreed it was NOT normal. Bringing it in next week.

I have this feeling that most all Libertys have this to some degree but many owners just don't pick up on it. Really disappointed. This Liberty with this is like going back in time to 1960's technology. I can't believe that Chrysler actually puts out a product with this drivability problem.

IMO, I don't think there is a fix for it, and if so it will lead to a lemon law buyback.

Well like I said Jeeps "fix" doesnt really fix anything, just covers up the problem by not allowing to torque converter to lock up and in the process effecting the efficiency of our jeeps. So do you want a vibration that is causing unknown problems or worse gas milage? Doesnt sound like a real good choice to me.

Just picked up a new 2011 yesterday in OKC. I noticed this feel on the test drive, but to me it simply reminded me of old school 4x4 Jeep technology in past automatic Jeeps I have owned. Once on the road back to Texas I never noticed the problem while cruising down the highway, but slow down in traffic due to construction and it can be felt and heard.
I believe it is the tc lock up that is being felt and causing a louder drivetrain noise and slight vibration. As to the variance in degree between two different vehicles and how it feels or sounds, that would depend a lot on the driver. Some people are more in tune with the feel of their vehicle. Some drivers/owners expect that all drive trains will be as quite and smooth as a Lexus while at the same time deliver the 4x4 demands and performance of a Jeep. Then there will be some who don't notice it until someone else points the little quirk out to them.
Just curious, of the owners who feel this on their Liberty, do you have the Command Trac or the Select II? I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but one never knows
FYI, Ours is the Select II

Command Trac here. I feel it when I'm cruising at any speed as long as the RPM's are low. Between 1500 and 2000rpm.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I am experiencing the exact same thing with our 09 KK....it has about 17k on it and we have noticed it ever since we bought it used at 9k. I have taken it to the dealer twice, and both times they told me that they can't really feel it. They want me to balance my tires before they look into it any further.....but has anyone else found a resolution to this yet?

It is NOT wheel balance. It is crappy engineering.

I posted earlier regarding this issue. The dealer where I bought this from agreed that mine was not normal. They drove others on the lot with me. Many , but not all have this problem, but it is a matter of degree on those that have it.

The dealer had the car 2 weeks and they:
Changed drive shafts
Replaced the Ring and Pinion gears
Replaced the torque converter.

I drove it after each repair and the only repair that helped resolve was the replacement of the torque converter. And that only took away about 50% of the noise, distortion, vibration or whatever you want to call it. The delaership then told me that this was the best they could fix it and still admitted the problem, but that "all Libertys do it"

I finally got rid of the Liberty with 8000 miles on it. I lost total confidence in a Chrysler product and the support from the manufacturer.

Other than a vibrating noisy harmonic distortion at 48-50 mph and the terrible gas mileage the Liberty was great. right.......

IMO, stay away from this model.

It's a Jeep, good mpg's is not part of the deal.As far as the vibs from the TC what do you expect for 30 year old tech as the trans is based off of a 30 year old trans, the A604 1st brought out in the 1st Gen Chrysler minivans in the '80's.

I'm just not sure how far I should fight this thing. Just to prove the dealer wrong I went and got my tires balanced last night (They said they can't look at it further till they are balanced)...they wanted to charge me $60 for a one time balance...HA. I took it and got a lifetime balance elsewhere for $50. So I called them this morning and tell them that and i don't think they know what to do.
