OldNavy, thanks for your reply. Have you dumped the oil out of your intercooler using that method yet? I've got close to 10K miles on my CRD so I think I'm going to try flushing the intercooler as soon as I can figure out how to do it.
I don't really want to remove the intercooler because of the AC condenser charge but I think it would be a good move for me to flush the intercooler somehow. Judging by the excessive amount of oil in my CAC hoses I'm guessing I have a significant amount of oil in the intercooler. I've also had to add a quart of oil to the engine a month after I bought it and then again a month after doing an oil change. The first quart after buying it could have been poor PDI prep at the dealer but I was careful when I changed the oil so the second quart definitely went somewhere.
The description I gave was rather specific to VW's I've done, but would apply I thought to the CRD. I did know several VW drivers that drilled a hole and then braized in a drain valve as on a radiator. If I look at the CRD and see if it's easy enough to get to I may have that done to the CRD by a radiator shop. That should cost no more then maybe $50 depending on difficulty of getting to area to do the work.
If possiable start checking oil after over night setting or at least a couple of hours, as it does not drain fast like most gassers. Mine always shows about 1/3 qt low 10 or 15 minutes after shut off, then next morning it's on the full mark.
