Wheel spacers?

Hey Guys/Gals,
I havent been on in a while because of moving across the country and starting a new job left me with zero free time. So...good to be back. I had upgraded to 245/70/16 size tires way back and definitly had alot of rubbing issues with the destroyed stock suspension. so much that alot of my fender lining got rubbed right out. I've since upraded the suspension to OME/Blistien...wish I would have done so much sooner. The problem is I STILL HAVE RUB! I want to switch to bigger tires because these little tires look goofy with the lift. However, I dont feel comfortable doing that knowing that I already have rubbing issues. I can post pics if need but I rub on the front swaybar as well as the front control arms. It appears to be worse on passanger side for some reason...maybe just driving habbits?? Wonder what you guys recommend? If wheel spacers would help what do I need to get and from where?
Also, I already would like to go more on the lift...what is the next step on that to get me to where a Frankenlift would be?

If you are hitting on the inside edges you will need to space out. When you lift you move the wheels toward the center causing what you are talking about.

You can get spacers from 4wheel parts (I think they are called spider trax) or Rough County. However the spacers are almost as much as a new set of wheels and potentially not legal in all states.

16 x 7 wheels with 4" offset should resolve your problem.

Our KJ has minimal rubbing on the pinch weld area (plastic inner fender cover)
and minimal rubbing on the fog light door area.

get cragars 16x7 with 4" backspace. good to go. FWIW, I think my 245/70/16 on my new lift are totally acceptable...sure I can go up to 31" tires, but for now these are good to go. I wouldnt go any smaller look-wise with a lift. We all commented yesterday when we did the lift that this size doesn't look bad at all, in fact, it give the lift a little taller look optically. good luck and I vote for smaller backspace over spacers.

I love my renny wheels, but am going to be throwing on my 245/75/16s in the next week.
I don't want to buy new wheels, but everyone says that spacers are dangerous.
Where is the best place to buy, and I am guessing that 1.25 will work, 5on5.

Oh, and the bolt pattern is 5 on 4.5" or 5 on 114mm, not 5 on 5.

BTW, we've been running these spacers for the last 18 months
(36010.59 kilometers / 22375.94 miles) and have not had any

I don't see the issue with wheel spacers. I have 1.25 spacers on each hub and then my stock size rims on. Pounded the pinch and cut out the fog light door and theres very minimal rubbing, but i also have 265-70-16.

i used 1.25". you should be fine, possibly a little more rub repending on what tires you use. But the width gives the jeep a really aggressive stance that i just love :rockon:

Considering that right now my 235/70/16's rub a lot on the swaybar, I am going to guess that those will rub like hell!

Stock wheels are hub centric,Spyder trax ,are also. most others are not.

This may be a silly comment and so if it is, then let it go, but I have the same set up as you with the same tires. I had the same rubbing your talking about and all I did was I got JBA spacers (like $40 each) (onling like .25each) and an alignment.

The rubbing went away, then I upgraded to JBA upper Control Arms and realigned it and its better then ever.

It in my opinion is the cheepest way to go with getting rid of bad faulty ball joints and keeping the look.

Be careful, if you have stock UBJ and move to 1.25 spacers on each side you run the risk of premature failure on the ball joints. Moving them 2.50 out (all together) changes the leverage point (focal point) between the UBJ and the spindel causing added stress on the joints (anyone feel free to jump in).

If you're running 245/70s, and you are getting rubbing, then I'd say you definitely need an alignment. Cause something is jacked up there.

The 1.5" totally eliminated my rubbing issues...If you haven't done this already use a straight edge to measure how far inside the flares your tire/wheel is sitting now, that'll give you an idea of where they'll end up with different sized spacers, as far as how it'll look anyway.

More of my two cents would be to wire brush the hell out of your hubs before you put the spacers on. I was in a rush when I originally did mine and ended up with a nasty shimmy. I wire brushed them and they rode much better.
