There has been some chat on this topic (see for example
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=56486&p=628305&hilit=citric#p628305). As nearly as I can tell the bottom line is 1) you cannot get all of the existing fluid out of the cooling system by a simple drain and 2) no one seem to truly know the capacity of the system. The 05 and 06 FSM and owner's manuals are inconsistent on the capacity and totally mess up the quarts > liter conversion or alternatively they got the liters right and mess up the coversion back to quarts. Other than the referenced chat I can think of 2 ways to approach getting most all of the old fluid out of the system - 1) drain, refill with clean water, repeat until water is clear (according to stoutdog this takes about 7 cycles) or 2) install and operate a Prestone flush and fill kit in the line from the viscous heater to the heater core. 2 notes on the latter 1) our heater core apparently does not have a valve so you don't really have to turn on the heat but it doesn't hurt and 2) I personally have yet to try this although I see no reason why it would not work IF you treat the overflow container on the firewall as if it's the radiator and install the overflow there as we have a fully close pressurized system which calls for installing the overflow at the radiator cap and the cap on our overflow is the equivalent (others have indicated I may be wrong but I've seen no reason why). Once you have as flushed a system as possible a 50/50 mix is desirable, higher for the far north, but DO NOT add 50/50 pre-mix. Rather add 6.5 qts of straight G-05 based on the assumption our systems hold between 11.8 and 13.3 qts hence you will be close and then top off with clean water. If you have access to an antifreeze tester marked in degrees you can run the vehicle a bit to mix the fluid and then test, see the Xerex data sheet, for the level of protection you have to get an idea of how close you got to a real 50/50 mix.
