Good to hear that there are some 05's running the turbo kits. That eliminates one potential problem. I was worried about the timing belt sync, since that was recently replaced, but it was checked and appeared to be correct. Also good to hear no bad experiences with GDE; that perception on this forum was part of the reason I decided to go ahead with that kit. My point in posting here was not to put pressure on GDE; Keith has been helpful throughout (except when I think he was out of town). I am planning on working with them, hopefully until I can get it running with the original stage 2 tune instead of the defueled version i have now. Just looking for ideas of what could be wrong with the motor that would lead to this set of problems. Will post if there's any progress. Again, thanks for the pointers.

GDE's test vehicle was an '05.

Anyone out there with a GDE flash tool to loan/rent/sell at less than full retail?

I am resurrecting this old zombie of a thread because my CRD Liberty has just undergone resurrection by Geordi!

The saga went something like this: 115k miles in, timing belt and water pump done by a Saab mechanic who also does a lot of TDI work in Durango, GDE stage 2 turbo kit installed along with provent, suncoast TC, shift kit, GDE transmission flash by a 4x4 shop in Durango (I will name names off list if anyone wants them) -- and nothing worked right after that. A lot of work was done trying to fix it by tweaking the GDE tune, cleaning out the intake. Keith checked out the Turbo install... nothing worked.

TURNS OUT IF YOU GET THE TIMING BELT ON RIGHT, EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS BETTER!!!

Geordi did a timing belt/water pump job; the timing belt was *not* on right. Elected not to do anything about rockers, since it seemed like the valve train was behaving nicely. Was prepared to replace the MAP and MAF, but there don't seem to be any issues with them.

It runs like a beast!

Now to clean it up after *THREE YEARS* of sitting, much of it with a broken window...

HATS OFF TO GEORDI! (not cheap, but he turned my expensive paperweight into a running Jeep!)

These CRDs are like Rolls Royce s...just have to fly in your qualified mechanic and VOILA!

I so want to do the turbo upgrade...think I would drive from Texas to Michigan...or fly in Geordi for backup.

The install is not that hard although geordi might have a different opinion. We did mine on the ground under a party top tent in front of his trailer in a couple of days. Just had to drive like a 100 year old until I got my Suncoast torque convertor.

I've got an edited version of GDE's install instructions based on our experience if anyone wants a copy just email me.

So the lesson here is that if you have major problems with your CRD and you live in Colorado you have to fly Geordi out?

Good to know. 8)

Last winter I had to have the glow plugs replaced and they had to flash the ecu. I had no power and was smoking, call keith and got the controller and reflashed the ecu back to the economy flash that I had before dealer worked on it. Still no power and smoke, found a mechanic that took the turbo off and soaked it for two days in a bucket of transmission fluid, as it was carboned up on the back side. Runs like a champ since.

Probably smoked like a train until the transmission fluid burned off, right?

As for flying out to Colorado or just about anywhere else... Yup! If you need help, I have the ability to be available. It might not be the cheapest option, but I don't replace things that aren't broken and have worked on more than 45 of these now. I guarantee nobody else except maybe Sir Sam has opened up this many.
