Just curious, has anyone come up with a passive way to clean the intake on the crd's. Even with the OFM, I found egr still allowing some gasses through, as if not completely closed. Regardless, I would like to start from scratch, and have a clean, open intake. I do not want to remove the cylinder head, even thought a belt replacement will be soon to come, and I'll be more then half way there. EGR has been completely blocked off now, looking forward to a GDE tune, however dreading the shipping charges.

Have you ever observed how a "snow fence" works? The snow builds up just behind the fence

The same thing happens on egr equipped diesel engines. On our CRD's it seems the "snow fence" is the elbow just above the flow control valve.

Some snow/soot will get further but the majority will be right behind what ever is acting like the fence. On a VW ALH tdi engine the "anti shudder valve" is the fence

Nothing has been found that will clean it "automatically" You'll need to remove it for cleaning
