Sensors on Airbox

What are the two sensors on the airbox. I'm going to a cone filter and deleting the airbox, but need to know how to handle relocating the two sensors. Thanks

The one with the red clip is the mass airflow sensor. It shouldn't be necessary since you have a GDE tune. The other is temp sensor. I imagine you'd want to keep it inside the intake trac or very close to your filter on the outside.

I've been cautioned against using K&N or similar filters ... not sure if your cone filter is of that style or if it's paper ... but I'm sure someone here will chime in with their opinion. :2cents:

I've been using K&N air filters on my CRD and other cars, trucks for years. Never created a problem for me. Never a collection of oil on the MAS. Maybe the people who have had problems, just used to much oil when re-oiling their filter after cleaning. Follow the directions is all you have to do and NOT put oil on the filter so it's running or dripping wet.

I'm going with a Amsoil dry cone filter. Going to have a buddy weld up a stainless airbox to protect it from the elements.

I'm using an AEM DryFlow filter on mine. Just popped it into the OEM intake tube since that's as good as you can get from an airflow stance. With the GDE tune, both of the airbox sensors are useless so I just unplugged them.

Really? It's just a matter of putting it in there... I didn't realize that the GDE tune no longer used the MAF or the Intake Air Temp. May have to look into this as I just happen to have a spare filter kicking around...

Yeah it's AEM part# 21-201BF-H. It slid right into the OEM tube like a glove. I thought about making my own intake tube, but once you look at the factory tube you realize that it would be impossible to build something that flowed better. So I just kept everything in place, except the factory airbox which is replaced with the AEM filter.

It "whooooshhhes" a little more in the cabin and so far I haven't noticed any significant improvements in MPGs or power. I'm going to run it for a little longer....but odds are I might put the factory airbox back on this Summer simply for it's added protection against mud and water when I hit the trails.

any particular reason you went with the 21-201BF-H instead of the 21-2019BF (which is 4" longer, all else looks the same)?

The "Mercedes Logo Sensor" is not a temperature sensor according to Mercedes, it is another MAP sensor. If you mess with it or the wires break, you get a limp mode. I've had mine plugged in and just hanging loose in the engine bay for months with no problems tho.
