 Post subject: a hose came loose and is hanging from my rear differential

No idea what it is, never messed around down there. The hose comes out of the top of the differential, is maybe 18-20 inches long, and ends in some kind of plastic connector. What is this and how do I fix it? I noticed it because I saw what I thought was a stick stuck to my rear axle but it turned out it was the hose hanging down.
