Rear glass won't open

I'm getting no love in the General forum.

Can somebody offer help? Anybody have a link to the service manual portion dealing with the rear door handle and mechanism? I tried downloading the FSM from Sam's noob guide links with no success.

Its the micro switch in the tail gate handle. part number :cenad160 3.55$ in canada,dont know in the states.

You need to take off the back door trim,just by pulling it off, theres about 10 body clips holding it,then you take the off two bolts(10mm) retaining the handle,and you have 2 torx screw(size is 27) on the side of the door to remove, to get the handle out.

You disconnect the wire,take a small flat head screwdriver and slide off the retainning clip and the little micro-switch from the handle.

When you get the new one,fill up the handle insert with dielectric grease,slide in the new micro-switch wich comes with the wiring,and reinstall everything back together.

Everything, since all CRDs have rear tailgate handles. :SOMBRERO:

Besides, the CRD owners are much more technically inclined, in general, about the various parts and pieces on these rigs and I knew I'd get help faster in this forum.

Thanks to patmaz for the info... I suspect that the switch inside the door handle is indeed the problem. I'll look into it this afternoon.

No problem

That should be the problem,the switch isnt insulated,and humidity gets into the switch insert in the handle,wich makes corosion and breaks the switch,this is why i put some dielectric grease in it just to get it waterproof,i did mine just yesterday,wasnt working anymore since last december,and now,well,everything is working like new,easy reliable fix :SOMBRERO:

Yeah, since my key fob button will still open the glass every time, and the handle on the tailgate will open it about 10% of the time, I pretty much figured that there had to be a bad connection in there somewhere.

In about an hour I'll remove the handle and tear into it....

Yup,thats what mine did to,the key was working everytime but the handle didnt,lets hope its as simple for you to!

patmaz was correct... it was the switch. Once I got inside the rear gate and removed the handle, the switch was very easily removed and even plugged up with a harness so that it is an easy replacement! Gosh, the engineering in the KJ continues to amaze me after working on lots of WJs, TJs, etc.. These KJs are a breeze to maintain for the most part and it will really spoil you.

The new switch is on order and I should have it back together next week. Thanks again to the guys who offered advice, and also for the help with the FSM. I appreciate it.

,and yes,i have to agree,our kj s are really easy to work on,and another point,for most parts,they are not to expensive to fix compared to some imports on the market,i beleive that for the fun factor,its not much $$$ :wink:

of course if well maintained! :lol:

What problems did you have downloading the fsm?
