Help... Major water infiltration (Passenger Front-Rear)

Hi.

I do have a pretty major leak or water infiltration on my Liberty 03. I have no AC and I have dismentled the glove box assembly, the cowl the plastic runner on the right side.

Now for sure I will run the hose and try to figure this out. But if anyone could save me some research that would be much appreciated.

I've seen the bulletin concerning the AC problem, but I don't have AC. So I don't know.

Heavy rain as bring 1 inch on water on the passenger right front and rear this morning, I just felt like I was in the Titanic.

Pull the cowl off(windshield wipers and then cowl) and look at the fresh air intake located under cowl on passenger side.It's a raised plastic piece,could be cracked or the gasket could be bad allowing water inside.Had that issue on a few GM's when I worked at a bodyshop.

I'll give it a better try next weekend and see how in poors in this week (its rainy around here these days).

I've lift all the carpet to have a clear view. But definitely it make sense to be in that area.

I've already have poor a gallon of water in that area without infiltration, but you know these things are hard to find and that may even be it. A gallon of water vs a night of heavy rain is not so much. More extensive research must be done on my side.

I'll keep you guys posted on this, because it's really something bad to have. I had people in the Jeep earlier on today with their feet all wet. That's a shame. :oops:

I had the same problem after a heavy rain. It usually happened on the passenger side, but it also happened on the drivers side once. I park on a gravel parking space that is not level and what I found was that when I parked on a high spot that put one side of the Jeep higher than the other, I got water inside. If you look at the gasket along the bottom of the door, you will see that there is a small space where the gasket runs under the plastic trim piece. That is where I saw water coming into my Jeep.

I know it sounds crazy, but I spent hours trying to figure this out and after I saw this, I made sure that I parked as level as I could and the problem looks like it has gone away. There have been several strong storms since then and there has been no more water inside.

Ill check that out as I started noticing a bit of sogginess on the drivers side carpet right by the front left support bolt.

to Khaki-KJ - Your definitely right.... I can park on two side of my city street. When I park on the left side on the street.... obviously the trucks leans to the left. That's where I got the problem when it's raining heavily. I'll check your point before dismantling the truck in many pieces. lol Txs for the confirmation the leaning when park is one thing I notice that increase the water amount inside from previous experiences with infiltration on that truck. I'll keep you guy posted on my finding.

Hi guys, I spent several hours eliminating possible entry point and it basicly infiltrate by the roof rack assembly. I am pretty tired and wet after the several hose test and have no access to a garage for an other 1 week... (the joy of living in appartement building)... I am documenting the case with picture to share once I am done and 100% sure of the quality of the fix... I don't wish that, but I am sure other guys will have the same issue one day.

Precise point of entry on the water is in the roof rail under the plastic strip on the top of the truck (just over the rear passenger door)... The front part of these plastic roof rail have been easy to remove from the base of the windshield all the way up to the B-Pillar, couple of screws (approx 10 of them), but removing the rest from the B-Pillar to the back of the roof is a bit more work. As the truck is a 2003 and plastic is may be prone to cracking after years of sun exposition I'll go true my service manual and see how to remove the rest and finally stop this major leak with necessary products.

If anyone experience this and as no time to repair, just put some DUCKTAPE over that roof plastic rail front front to back and the leak will stop. My jeep is Silver so is the DUCKTAPE :-)

For the moment it's save me a lot of humidity issues inside the cabin, but for sure this is a aesthetic solution and a temporary one.

I'll keep you post with the final solution and will take picture for you guys.

Found it !!! :-)

Ok that was pretty straithforward. You know where your roof rack is bolted in the roof... that where was the issue. I don't have a roofrack on my base model. So Chrysler the put some black plastic/metal strip to cover the water ditch on the roof of the truck.

Chrysler as put some foam washer to seal the rackroof hole with this metal strip visible on top of the truck. Will all agree that a 9 years old JEEP playing in mud and salty water will get a beating while offroading and when cleaning it with a pressure washer. Well all these year of beating got these whimpy foam washer completly dry and inefficient.

For the moment, I have block the two holes up front with duck tape and I plan on filling them with Eurethane this summer.

Plus, this was an issue where the water was coming in.... but all my hole to evacuate the water down below the rocker where block with sand and mud. I had to unblock them with a steel wire and now the water is pooring from the top to the bottom without any issue :-)
