Help me. Please.

I have a '05 CRD with 120K miles. lost power on the highway. Pulled over. Engine shivered for 30 seconds, died and never restarted.

Dealership said it needed a new fuel filter and had a "cam shaft sensor error". Replaced both, still doesn't start. They then condemned the injector pump and wanted $3,700 to replace!!! I said thank you very little and bought an OEM pump at a parts house for $1,000 and had the dealership replace it for $900 in labor. After install, it still did not work. They say the new pump is bad! It "failed the same way". They could not tell me how it failed, but said it delivered no pressure. I asked if they had checked the quantity control valve and got a blank look. I can't believe the new pump is bad out of the box. The parts house is very doubtful too but will honor the warranty if the pump is bad. Regardless, I can't keep paying these jethros to change parts until they luck out.

This is killing me. There were no fuel problems prior to this. Any clues? Anyone know of good CRD mechanic in the San Diego Area?

Look for a dealership that repairs Sprinter vans. They have an engine very similar to our CRD.

Does sound like fuel issues. Has the timing belt been changed? Service interval for it is 100k miles.

a fair number of folks don't drift over to the 4x4 section

try some searches on Injectors - lots of threads - and PM Green Diesel Engineering - Keith's knowledgeable, helpful (and sells great products)
