I have the day off tomorrow and want to meet my buddy who is coming in from Philly and do a little off roading. We were thinking of checking out the New Jersey Pine barrens because it's in his direction. They look like it's gonna be flat and flat there. Any other legal options between Brooklyn and Philly or not terribly far out of the way? Anyone interested in joining us? It will be the maiden voyage of this liberty since the lift was put on in February (I know, I know, but I've been working out of town...)
Although I've lived here of over a decade I've never gone off road around here so it's new to me as far where to go.

Thanks,
Craig

Never been to the pine barrens wheeling in NJ. But that is prob the closest legal place to wheel nearby. Lots of large puddles I suspect. The last time I was down that way we were shooting a film in the Barrens near Hammonton and Batso. The land was most flat, some rolling hills. I'd be down to check it out sometime, but can't do tomorrow cause the Jeeps in the shop again!
If you go, shoot some pics and vid, would like to see what they have to offer for a run sometime. Try posting up on the MidAtlantic board too. Might be someone willing to give you a guided tour down that ways.

well, patrolled I dont know, we've heard there is a reservation on the other side which is patrolled by rangers on horseback but never seen one. Always see people riding quads in there. And the only way to patrol the mountain would be horse or a lifted 4x4, possibly quads, its too tricky for just a stock truck. If you want I could get you the gps coordinates I have, just PM me.

It's a good time up there, not hardcore rock crawling. But its tricky, a lot of fun.

Ohh, and I am in Scranton and I have alot of places to go and not go. Went out tonight to a fav spot and the stream (a river today) was looking dangerous. But alas, Pine barrens would be nice.

Yeah we went and spent the day. It was ok. Nothing technical at all (even for a noob) as far as what we found (we didn't make it to what was labeled as the swamp area).

I got stuck in one water hole (High centered on the rear dif in about 2.25 feet of water). We had made it through one way and tried a different angle and got hung up. We were in the process of trying out the hi-lift winching technique when someone came along and we gladly accepted the offer for a tug. I made it through the day relatively damage free (popped a couple of plastic rivets on the rear fender trim).

I'll post pics if I get them from my friend.

Thanks,
C

You should always have a wheeling bud with you in case something like that happens.
Their just like condoms, you never know when your going to need them.

Yeah I know. But with the option of not going or going, I'm going. I had friends with me to help with the hand winch. And worst case, we hoof it out. I grew up in the U.P. of Michigan. So although wheeling with proper(ish) gear is newer to me, getting stuck in the woods isn't

Next time I'm going somewhere I'll give a fair warning and see who can't come along.
