So, a while ago I used to work for this total DB of a man, we'll call him Justin for argument's sake. Justin knew a guy who just graduated from the local university, with a degree in engineering, and paid him to come up with a maintenance free solution to catch-cans for Subarus. They came up with this odd creature.

The unit replaces the factory oil cap. Two of the hose fittings take air from the CCV's (Subaru engines have one on each head) route it through a baffle system which condenses the oil, and drops it right back into the oil filler neck. The third hose fitting routes back to the normal routing. Basically it's a catch-can/provent that drops the oil back into the sump.

Does the CRD's oil system need to be under constant pressure at the oil filler cap, or would something like this work? I have one of the working prototypes without the DB's obnoxious company logos sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I have no issue fabricating an adapter to join it to the CRD, so that isn't an issue, just wondering if the CRD's systems are that different from your standard turbo gas motors?

There is alot of pressure in the CRD CC, I am not sure this would work very good? But it looks like a good idea

My thoughts are it would do little or nothing, The idea with a Provent or home made type of unit is to slow down (by causing a slight restiction) and having a filter media for the oil rich vapor to condense on. I don't think this cap would do either, the suction from the turbo is going to pull it to fast through the unit for any noticable effect. As well it has the heat of the engine to contend with, the Provent is mounted in a remote location away from the bulk of the engine heat, allowing for better condensation of the oil rich vapors. :2cents:

Glad to see you have moved on Rich :D

We could possibly look into making one specifically for you guys if there was demand for the product. It should be fairly easy to adapt it to be a direct bolt on(you guys wouldnt have to make an adapter). I'd have to so some research on your setups but currently we are using these on the Turbo'd Subarus and they work great. They might just work on this platform too!

Justin: I think you'd have a pretty good market here, but I'm not sure how many you need to sell to make it worth your while. I personally have no desire to route the ccv to the turbo, so the negative pressure of the turbo end is a non-issue for me. I just want something to eliminate the copious oil vapor on an open vent.

Doesn't the CRD engine already have a gismo like that on the valve cover...?

(PCV valve  )
