kj mileage after lift

Just wanted to find out what kind of mileage a kj will have with a 2.5" lift and 31" tires (no regearing).

Anyone?

i get between 15-16 mpg. i go through the city a lot so it may be lower than some others.

I get around 15, if I'm lucky.
I also a six speed manual with the 3.55 gears.

I'm not on 31s but with 245 70-16 tires and frankenlift I'm at the same mpgs I was at before the lift.

Went from 235/70/16 to 265/75/16 and the mpg dropped from 20/hwy to 16/hwy. But this is calculated with the factory settings for the odometer. What puzzles me is that the rpm's have dropped since going to the larger tires. Running 70mph(GPS) i'm only turning 2000 rpm vs. 2400 with stock size tires. Mine is an auto with 3.73 gears.

Of course your RPMs are lower, and also the reason for the poor gas mileage, go to 4.10s and mileage will go back up, motor will run cooler and like I said way better gas mileage, you're lugging the motor too much now

Gotta get the engine rpm's back into it's power range for best mpg's and performance.

Oh my KJ with 265/75R16's and stock 3.73's was about 8-9mpg's city,16mpg's highway.Went up to 13-14mpg's city and 22 highway after regearing to 4.10's.

Good info. It cracks me up that people still complain about Wranglers being the gas guzzlers. Libbys don't really seem to be much different in that respect. I definately think the KJs are finally being given the respect they deserve off-road.

I'm always curious...I know why I chose a KJ over a Wrangler...but I'd love to hear the reasons others have too. Because let's face it....you have to spend quite a bit of money to even bring it up to snuff (comparable tire size and height) that a stock JK comes with.

I bought my KJ because at the time 4 door wranglers were either sold or wait-listed in my area, not to mention were going for way too much. If money wasnt an issue I would have one today as opposed to my KJ. But the more and more I think I think about it I realize that 3.7l > 3.8l minivan engine, mechanical throttle > fire by wire, 5000 tow capacity > 2000 tow capacity, better MPG > les MPG, etc.

Honestly after all the times I I have thought about it the only things the JK 4 doors have over a KJ is room (may be a deciding factor when we have kids), topless ability, and better aftermarket. Other then those Ill stick to my KJ. But when the need for more room arises and they offer something more then the minivan engine Ill reconsider it for a DD.

Someone was saying that they are going to release the new wranglers with a 6 cyl *Penistar engine that has more HP and 28mpg. I haven't confirmed this but thats the rumor down here.

I thought about getting a rubicon unlimited used but from what I can tell (as a noob), maneuverability is less than that of a KJ. Yeah it has stock lockers and 4.10s but it's turn radius isn't what you would expect which seems important for trails n rocks.

It would take a greater then amazing turning radius to match and/or beat the KJs turn radius. As for the penstar v6 well Ill have to look into the specs, but if its another fleet wide engine Ill pass. The 3.7l is an amazing engine and something similar would have to be present in order for me to purchase a gasser,

Too risky. Also, a buddy of mine has had his rubi for about 2 years and has already had issues with water leaking in through the hardtop breakaways. Ended up having to ditch the carpet.

first time i've EVER heard someone say they like the 3.7. All i ever hear is people complaining that its terrible on gas and low on power. I miss the of straight 6 4.0 most of all. But i have my 2.8 CRD so im happy :SOMBRERO:

The 3.7 is a good engine,not great but not bad either by any means.A Jeep is not ment to get good mpg's or have lots of power so the 3.7 fits perfectly and does a good job.

Oh and the 3.6 pentastar V6 will be a fleet wide engine with 3 versions,the JK getting the least powerfull version with only 260hp.By '13-'14 it will have direct injection also,so the price of ownership/maintenance will go up big time as if the VVT wasn't bad enough.

tjkj....when you say the price of ownership and maintenance will go up....how do you mean? And will it affect owners of existing jeep products?

Diagnosing direct injection requires more special tools,more $$$ the dealers/shops/techs will need to buy increaing the cost of repair,plus the parts alone will be expensive.

As for existing Jeep owners it can increase the price to maintain there current Jeeps as the current engines will be phased out making parts scarce,then you will have to rely on aftermarket parts which for the most part suck and just don't last.

I love the 3.7l. Plenty of power, not terrible on fuel for what it is and reliable if taken care of. Best engine ever? No. But a workhorse and pretty darn nice in the jeep. Honestly the only other gasser I would accept is a 4.7l powertech engine.

I agree. The 3.7l is a perfect fit for the liberty. Solid engine fits and works perfect for the liberty application.

As for the pentstar engine those HP numbers look pretty good, but I meant fleetwide as in in chrysler and dodge applications. I prefer engines designed for jeeps and not a multitude of cars/vans/trucks/jeeps. I guess Ill have to test drive one when it comes out (was going to test drive a 3.8l JK but not too wild about driving a minivan powered jeep).

Im not by any means implying that that was my opinion, just what i usually read on here and a couple other places as well as from liberty owners on the trails. I myself love the way they sound, but i've never driven one. but i've been in one when they drive and they seem to scoot well enough. But more power is always a plus to me.

Sure id love crd power, but with the mods I have plus a bg tune ill be sitting pretty. Heck with a fipk, fastman and dynomax ultraflow the powerband is pretty darn flat. Just cannot wait for a better tune and torque management removal.
