I'm not sure what the fix would be if you don't have the EVIC, but with the EVIC there should be an option on the menu to disable the auto locks.

I had the dealer do it when mine was new. They used their scan tool to do it.

But the (*^$#@@! cargo door will still always lock as soon as you shift to drive and take off. I HATE that. I always forget to re-unlock the doors when I get out of the Jeep so that I can get into the cargo area.

I have mine set to unlock all doors when I open the drivers door... works wonderfully. Not sure if you can do that w/o the EVIC, though.

I wanna say that you can change it without having the EVIC.

I believe you can change it with the remote. Something like holding down the button for so many seconds, then pushing another. I don't know if you can change that setting or not but it has the directions in the owners manual for certain lock/unlock options.

I have the EVIC, but I do not have that option. Maybe enough people like me complained that they added that for '06??

That or I was wrong and it's a remote-operated thing, like Cimarron says... Honestly, I sat down with the owners manual when I bought the vehicle over a year ago and customized everything to my liking. I seem to remember some settings involving magic tricks with the remote key, so this very possibly could be one of them. :5SHOTS:

Hrmm... this is what I could find in the '06 owner's manual. Seems to be an EVIC thing, though there may be another way.

Quote:
Auto Unlock On Exit? (Available Only When the AUTO DOOR LOCKS Feature is Turned On ) When this feature is selected all the vehicle’s doors will unlock when the driver’s door is opened if the vehicle is stopped and the transmission is in P (Park) or N (Neu- tral) position. Pressing the STEP button when in this display will select “Yes” or “No.”

Ahh.. I keep my auto door locks off, so that's why I don't see that option. Interesting.

Yea, that's a head scratcher... Seems kind of dumb to me that you can't have one without the other.

Who knows.

wonder if this works for non evic:

http://www.ehow.com/how_5989771_turn-lo ... -gear.html

•1
Insert your key into the ignition (do not turn) and close all the doors (leave them unlocked).

•2
Turn the key from "Lock" to "On" (without cranking) four times. End with the key in the "Lock" position.

•3
Press the "Lock" button on the power door lock switch.

See text beginning on page 132 of the 2005 Owners Manual and page 138 of the 2006 Owners Manual for instructions on programming the locks and other features using the EVIC; also text beginning on page 8M-25 of the 2006 FSM. As far as I know KJs without the EVIC cannot be owner programmed with respect to door locks. However, they can be programmed with the proper scan tool as noted in text beginning on page 8N-41 of the 2006 FSM. I assume but don't know for a fact that the required scan tool is a dealer only item although it's certainly possible that a larger locksmith operation may have that equipment. In any case programming desired lock operation with a scan tool is no big deal, done for free at purchase upon request, and otherwise should cost no more than about 30 minutes work time.

What state are you in? You can temporarily wire an EVIC through the OBDII port. EVICs can be purchased at junk yards from $30-50, then sell on ebay.

I also have several EVIC's for sale in the classifieds, as well as other goodies.

ok..call me stupid here..its my wife jeep..

but if the driver door is unlocked..if you pull on the handle by the spare tire the glass and door opens..
this is the case even after driving..without using the FOB..

now was her jeep reprogrammed before we bought it?? don't know..

have you just tried to open the handle?

If your Jeep is programmed to unlock all doors when the vehicle is stopped, placed in Park, and the driver's door is opened then the rear window and door are unlocked. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure, you have to use the fob.

The problem is you start driving, get to the dog park, hop out to let the dogs out, and the damm back door is locked.

Ya when you approach the vehicle and unlock it with the keys everything works fine, but its when you've been driving, and then the damm back door is locked that you start swearing at the thing.

What sort of asinine thinking went into that I want to know. I hate it.
