If you're careful, and take your time, there should be no problem.
As stated previously, using High Gloss paint will achieve the desired effect.
Use a scotch brite pad to "scuff" the chrome, and apply several light coats.
(Simple "rattle can" paint will work...... just don't go cheap.)
Allow ample drying time between coats..... don't rush it.
I can say from previous experience, the effect looks pretty cool.
I did the grill, all the side trim and molding, and even the diamond plate
accessories on my old truck, and got lots of compliments.
Even got asked a few times where I got the powder coating done.
