I have some Moabs that I've been waiting on getting tires for. I was planning on 245/75/16 Duratracs or T/A KO's, but I'm concerned that the rim may be too wide, since they're 8" vs the 7" of the stock rims. 8" is the max rim width for both Duratracs and T/A KO's. Anyone know if this will be a problem? Maybe have to monitor air pressure more closely, or not do any high-speed cornering so the tire doesn't deflate at the bead?

245's are fine on an 8" wheel. Some even run 235 width without any troubles. 7" rim would be better, but since you already have the SUPER-COOL Moabs, just mount them up and call it good.

You could run a 265/70-16 on the Moabs too. That is roughly the same rolling diameter as 245/75, but almost an inch wider tread.

I thought about 265/70's, but I don't feel like getting in there and pounding the pinch weld. (too lazy :5SHOTS: ) Also I run JBA 4.5 UCA's, and don't want them rubbing. you know I'd never hear the end of it from JL. . . .

You will probably have to pound the pinch weld for 245/75s too. I have JBA 4.5 UCAs too and no UCA rub with 265/75 Guard Dogs.

I've ran 245-75 MTRs/ 255-70 Kumhos / 265-70 BFG-ATs and now 265-75s on my Moabs with no problems
I do think the 265-70s sat on the wheels better or looked better anyways
and yes I did go ahead and have the pinch welds pounded, didn't have to for the 245-75s but did it ......well just because I could :goink:
I do have a slight more lift than you have so take that into consideration as well

Yer, I don't think I could run 265/75. Maybe 265/70, but I think I'll get better mileage with the 245/75.

So no issues running one of those brands of 245/75 on 8" Moabs?

check the manufacturer's web site for rim widths
in general E rated tires have less tolerance for rim variation - MTR's are one of the few that are okay with 8" - most aren't.
and SL rated tires - have a lot room to flex - most are okay with 8" rims.

I've run 3 different 245/75/16's on my Moabs -
1 didn't touch the pinch weld at all.
1 would occasionally scuff
and 1 rubbed on every turn
- different tread styles - almost an inch difference in tread widths
same 'tire' size

Both manufacturers (of the tires I am interested in) give rim widths of 6.5 - 8". Since 8" is their max rim width, I wanted to see if anyone has had problems. The Duratracs are available in either load range "C" or "E," I believe the T/A KO's are only available in "E" but I'm not positive. Has anyone run that size of either of those brands on Moabs?

Which tires rubbed badly on yours, AZ?

Good point. Yes, I think most, if not all TJ Rubicons came with 245/75-16 Goodyear MTRs mounted on the Moab wheels.

I'm in basically the same boat here... I just popped a tire beyond repair and the others are pretty chewed up from a crappy alignment. So I have to get new tires and an alignment asap...

I'm basically looking at getting either the Duratracs OR some Cooper Discoverer STTs...

I like the Duratracs because of winter traction and they are a bit cheaper for a 245/75 R16 compared to the bigger cooper but I'm thinking about the STTs because they are available in 265/70 R16... the Duratracs are not... only 265/75 which I think are too big and slightly too heavy for city driving. I have a frankenlift installed and I don't mind doing a wee bit of bumper triming and pounding the pinch welds... I was planning on that anyhow... I do go off road when I get the chance... a few times every couple of months...

Should I skip the Coopers and go with the 245/75 Duratracs and wait for a bigger tire until i get an ARB up front?

Vote?

I should also note that I also have a set of 16x8 Moabs to put the new tires on.

Also, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but it's essentially the exact same topic.

Yes it was not the ideal size but Jeep wanted to advertise that they had 8 inch wide wheels and 31 inch tall off road type tires, its what fit their description for the Rubicon

245-75s and 265-70s are almost the same height just different width is all
265-75s you'll need to regear as well

Yeah, 265/75 are definitely a no... what was he talking about above about rubbing on JBA 4.5 UCAs? I have those in there as well.

Any opinions on the Cooper Discoverer STT? I hear equally good and bad on the net... "they last forever", "they wear out super fast", "they are tough as hell", "they fall apart and chunk"... go figure internets. I know your pretty impressed with the Duratrac Tomm. I read the Review Thread... all 9 pages... haha...

I'm just wondering if the benifiets of a wider STT will out weigh the benifiets of the winter rating of the duratracs, or the other way around. I'm not really experienced in off road driving and last weekend I popped my tire on some rocks in the mountains... should have aired down...

The winters here in WA aren't too severe, mostly just rain, but I may drive in snow and ice a few times a year. Trails that I drive on are mostly logging roads and I attempt stuff out of my league that shoot off of them. They can get pretty muddy and slippery.

prionic1, I would suggest a set of these: http://www.treadwright.com/p-40-265-70r ... m-t-d.aspx. They are the size you want and a great tire too. I love mine! Superb traction.

OK, so no one forsees any fitment problems with either Duratracs or T/A KO's in a 245/75/16 size on 8" wide Moabs.

Nope. Or buy the Treadwright Wardens - Same tread pattern of BFG AT KO typically on BFG AT KO casings for a fraction of the cost - Only $86 each! http://www.treadwright.com/p-34-245-75r ... a-t-e.aspx

Their website says max rim width is 7.5". . . .

However, they are using BFG cores. BFG website says 6.5 - 8.0 rim width for 245/75-16. So it would be fine on Moabs.
