"I thought emissions related stuff had to be covered much more than 55K by federal law."

This is true but there's a catch. The Federal Emissions regulation says that if the vehicle can't pass an emission test because of a failed emission system component, and the failure of the emissions test results in the vehicle being banned from use (because of a state or federal law), the manufacturer has to fix the emission problem.

Not much testing going on yet in Louisiana but i've heard they will be much stricter in the near future.

I will read about the SEGR i've seen posts about it but don't know what it is yet.

I'm almost certain to get the GDE tune soon. Would be nice to have a spare ECU with stock firmware since i'm still under warranty.

No need for SEGR with GDE ECU. You can get a junkyard ECU as I did or buy the new GDE flash tool to return your OEM ECU to stock for dealer visits.

is the CRD ECU/ECM part number unique to the CRD? Or is it the same ECU/ECM that the other Liberty models use?

Unique to CRD. You must use either an '05 or '06 US KJ CRD ECU. When you send it to GDE, you need to let Keith know the year of YOUR Jeep, the VIN and the four injector codes. You also need to let him know if you have the original ceramic glow plugs or have converted to the new steel ones.

(Once you have removed the ECU the first time, leave off the bottom nuts. The top two nuts will secure it fine and make swapping for dealer visits much easier and quicker.)
