This weekend, I borrowed a sawzall from a guy at work. I have wanted to do something to my exhaust for months now and I finally did SOMETHING. I removed that resonator. I didnt want anything too loud or "import"-ish. I ended up with exactly what I wanted. A throaty start up and idle. It even sounds pretty nice through the rest of the rpms. However, once you hit about 4000 rpms the engine noise drowns out the exhaust, especially when accelerating quickly. Also, when cruising above 45 mph, its nice and quiet. The best part is, it was FREE! :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: Here are some pictures. My neighbor was around to help out and take a few pictures too.

I been trying to find time to do this for a while now. You may want to weld that hanger back on, because there is only one other hanger that supports your exhaust system. I would also be careful about idling in one place because of CO, unless you put an extension on. Glad you like it though :)

I hadnt thought about the hanger but I just went and checked real quick and I think it should be alright for now. From what I can tell, the exhaust that isnt supported anymore isnt heavy enough to sag. I wanted to keep the resonator/hanger intact in case I wanted to put it back on if I didnt like it. I dont know how to weld or have the equipment so Id have to bring it to a shop and have them weld it... which cost money. You make a good point though. It would probably be best to spend a couple of bucks to have it welded back together. As for the CO, I noticed that right when started the Jeep for the first time. Im surprised how much more noticeable of a smell there is compared to stock (although I dont think CO has a smell). I dont really like how the exhaust looks as it is, so I might have an extension put on.
I would recommend doing this before getting an all new muffler to anymore thinking about doing either. I think Ill try to get a video of it somehow. Ill need to find a video camera...

I ended up putting on a bent tailpipe to finish off the exhaust since I cut off the resonator. It looks much better. Heres a video of a few low revs. Nothing over 2500. I didnt want to piss off the neighbors.

Finally did the same. It makes a huge difference! I am going to weld the hanger back on though. Image

I want to have my hanger welded back on too. I dont think it really needs it but its probably a good idea. I dont have a welder or know how to so Ill have to bring it to a garage and pay a few bucks.

I haven't experienced any drone. I haven't had any problems without the hanger either. As for the exhaust tip, that's exactly what I have. I cut the resonator off at the straight section of pipe right before it. If you do that you can get an angled exhaust tip from Advanced Auto for like 6 bucks. It's a few inches shorter than with the resonator but it shouldn't be a problem.

I cut out the old hanger and reused it welding it back on a work with a commandeered pos flux core welder. I havent welded since high school 11 years ago so don't laugh.Image

I would ask your dealership's service advisor. They probably won't put anything in writing, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. If something like your factory stereo fails, and you have done this mod, they shouldn't deny you because they are completely unrelated.
