Sorry to hear that someone hacked your wiring but if you could buddy-up with someone that does know how to solder and run wires, it could be easily fixed in less than 1/2 hour. Wiring diagrams are posted and others will send you what you need. 9 wires, that's all.
I don't see how this could change the value if wired correctly.
In my job I rack up a lot of Frequent Flier Miles and Points because of loose wires and hack job wiring on Equipment Control Panels. racertracer citing a dealers opinion on re-saleability is like asking a political hack what he/she thinks about the opposing political party in DC, you get a lot of hot air.
Turbo Tim makes a good point, you can not defy the Laws of Physics, loose connections don't do the job.
