Looks like a problem with my head gasket, hope it is not something worse. For some time I had been losing small amounts of coolant. Recently the loss rate had increased. I had an oil analysis done and it indicated coolant in the oil. Took the CRD into a local shop which had been a Jeep dealer but still does full services on Chrysler products. They put in a dye to try to determine if there was a leak somewhere but no, its just coolant in the oil. So I am assuming it is the head gasket since there is also some combustion products in the cooling.
While they have the head off I am going to have them do the timing belt and water pump since I am at 92K miles. Not sure what they will find or what it will cost but I want to get the CRD sorted out. I really love driving it, hope it isn't down for a long time and a small fortune. Wish me luck.
Two suggestions for those with small coolant leaks, have an oil analysis done. And for everyone else, make sure your thermostat works. I speculate that I left my old one on too long and contributed to the problem.

What is the theory behind this statement? Now, if it was stuck closed causing it to over heat I could understand but I don't see how over cooling could affect the gasket.

Mine has been bad for about 8 months. Not a biggie in this weather so I haven't got round to replacing it yet.

Is removing and replacing the head from our CRD a tough job?

What could the costs be?

Did you tighten the small coolant hoses under the egr valve?

Remove the fuel head to get to them. They are 2 small 3/8" hoses with 4 spring clamps, remove the spring clamps and replace them with screw clamps and tighten, recheck the system for leaks.

I am experiencing undetectable coolant loss again and it's pointing to a leaky head gasket. I'll know more in the near future.
